Prince Harry Defies Prince William's Request in Netflix Docuseries
Prince Harry has reportedly defied his brother Prince William's request never to air Princess Diana's controversial Panorama interview again.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle showed snippets of the late Princess of Wales' interview with BBC journalist Martin Bashir in their Netflix docuseries.
After Lord Dyson's report about the BBC covering up Bashir's deceit to obtain the interview came out last year, William said it was his firm view that the Panorama interview had no legitimacy and should never be aired again.
The report also showed that the interview lacks "high standards of integrity and transparency." The new Prince of Wales said he thinks that the way the interview was obtained "substantially influenced" what his mother said.
He added that the interview was a "major contribution" to making his parents' relationship worse and has since hurt countless others.
At the time, Harry noted that he was deeply concerned about such journalistic practices like those of Bashir being "widespread today." The Duke of Sussex added that the ripple effect of "a culture of exploitation and unethical practices" ultimately took his mother's life.
Bashir reportedly used deceitful methods such as forging bank statements and showing these documents to Diana's brother to gain access to her.
Netflix Docuseries Remembering Princess Diana
Prince Harry talked about his mother in episode one of their new Netflix docuseries. He said he has no early memories of his mother, and it was almost like he "blocked them out."
Although, he noted that he will never forget his mother's "cheeky laugh" and her saying to him that he can get into trouble, "just don't get caught."
He said that majority of his memories are "being swarmed by paparazzi." He recalled that it would be rare to have a holiday without someone with a camera "jumping out of a bush."
In the docuseries "Harry & Meghan," the Duke of Sussex also addressed the Panorama interview, saying that his mother was deceived into giving the interview. However, he noted that his mom also spoke "the truth" regarding her experience.
Diana was well-remembered by the Sussex family, with one episode showing the Princess of Wales' portrait on the wall to their son. Meghan Markle was seen holding Archie and telling her son it was his "grandma Diana."
Harry said in an AppleTV+ docuseries that he got a photo of his mother in Archie's nursery." He added that Archie's first words were mama, papa, and grandma. The Duke of Sussex said it was the "sweetest thing," but it made him sad as his mother should be here.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix Docuseries
The first episode of the Netflix docuseries showed title cards reading that it was a "first-hand account of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's story." Members of the royal family have declined to comment on the content of the series.
The series features interviews with the couple's friends, family, staff, and former colleagues. It also features video diaries around the time they publicly announced they were stepping back from the royal family. It also revealed Prince Harry's secret Instagram account, which he used under a fake name.
