A World Cup conspiracy is going around, with fans speculating that the Qatar tournament is "rigged."

One World Cup follower noted that the top two players going to the finals are Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. The Twitter user then emphasized the ties Mbappe and Messi have to PSG.

Qatar Sports Investment currently owns PSG after having bought Paris Saint-Germain in 2011. The group is a subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority, which is the state-run sovereign-wealth fund in Qatar.

It was one of the reasons why PSG is called state-backed. Other teams that are state-funded are UAE-affiliated Manchester City and Saudi-affiliated Newcastle United.

Another Twitter user echoed the same concern, referring to Mbappe and Messi playing for PSG, which is currently sponsored by Qatar.

World Cup Conspiracy

Argentina has landed a spot in the finals, which caused some fans to claim that the 2022 World Cup is "rigged."

The team advanced to the Round of 16 on November 30. Argentina was widely touted as a favorite to win the Qatar edition of the World Cup.

Some fans expressed their dismay over Argentina getting their way in the semi-final, with many claiming the tournament had been "rigged" for Messi to get the trophy on Sunday.

Argentina played against Croatia and got the winning spot.

One fan tweeted that FIFA would have lost a lot of money if it was a "Morocco Croatia final."

The Twitter user said that FIFA would need France and Argentina in the final. Another fan said that a final between Argentina and Morocco would not be "as hyped as a final between Argentina and France."

A Twitter user said that Qatar probably wanted to be remembered as the tournament where "Messi won his world cup."

World Cup Final

Argentina won against Croatia in the first semifinal earlier in the week while defending champion France won against Morocco with a 2-0 win on Wednesday.

FIFA's most recent ranking shows that Argentina ranks third while France ranks fourth.

Messi would be facing his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe as France defends its championship title against Argentina.

Messi was asked if the Sunday game would be his last at a World Cup, to which he replied affirmatively.

Messi said that he has to wait for years for the next World Cup final, adding that he does not think he has time for that long.

The team captain said that he feels happy to be able to finish his World Cup career by playing his last game in a final.

If Mbappe manages to successfully block Messi's attempt at the World Cup trophy, France will be the first team in 60 years to win back-to-back World Cups.
