Queen Consort Camilla has taken Prince Andrew's previous title, making her the new Colonel of the Grenadier Guards amid the reshuffle of senior royal military positions.

Camilla takes over the Duke of York position from Andrew, who lost his military titles. The shakeup also sees Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, getting her first Army role. The princess takes over as colonel of the Irish Guards from her husband.

The Prince of Wales, Prince William, will now become the colonel of the Welsh Guards, replacing his father, King Charles III.

Andrew inherited the position of colonel of the Grenadier Guards from his late father, Duke of Edinburgh, when he retired from public life in 2017.

The title had earned an emotional significance, given how popular Philip was. He served in the role for 42 years.

Both rank and file loved the Duke of Edinburg while he had the tile. The Colonel of Grenadier Guards is also one of the oldest and most iconic regiments in the British Army.

Andrew was stripped of the ceremonial title earlier this year after he decided to settle a civil lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault.

Prince Andrew's Title Given to Camilla

In June, it was reported that Prince Andrew was not expected to be present at the Trooping the Color after he was set aside for the most important military event of the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Earlier, a military source told Daily Mail that Andrew will not appear in public at all this year. The prince was previously barred from appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the RAF Red Arrow's fly-past.

Buckingham Palace announced earlier this week that Camilla has taken the colonelcy, with one source telling the U.S. Sun that "this is, without doubt, the final of final nails."

Sources also told the outlet that Camilla takes her appointment "very seriously" and is "delighted" with the possibility of developing her relationship with the regiment.

However, Camilla has never officially served in any military role. A palace spokesman did not detail when Andrew had been told of the appointment or his immediate reaction.

King Charles III's Trooping the Color

King Charles III will hold a birthday parade called Trooping the Color just six weeks after his coronation in May.

The palace announced that the annual festival will take place on June 17, 2023. There had been suggestions that Princess Anne would receive Prince Andrew's previous title.

According to the palace, she is still Colonel of the Blues and Royals Household Cavalry regiment. Meanwhile, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, remains to be the Colonel of the Scots Guards.

King Charles and Prince William are expected to ride on horseback during the display next June, while other members of the royal family will watch the procession from carriages and the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Trooping the Colors will see over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians participating in the military procession.

The parade will start from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade and will close with a Royal Air Force fly-past.
