Around 421,000 households participating in SNAP benefits in Oregon will receive the additional allotments, which are worth to be around $71 million.

Those who are already beneficiaries of SNAP benefit payments in Oregon will receive their emergency allotments on January 11 while those who did not receive benefits in the first monthly issuance can expect to have their emergency allotments on January 31 or February 2.

SNAP benefits recipients in Oregon usually receive their food stamp payments through the state's Electronic Benefits Transfer card called Oregon Trail.

Oregon Trail is also used for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families cash benefits.

There are 22 states that have been approved to distribute extra SNAP benefits in January 2023 to their respective residents.

California is among those states, with around 2.8 million California households expecting to receive extra food stamp payments in January 2023.

California SNAP EBT cardholders will receive their extra allotments in food stamp benefits for January by February 12, 2023.

New SNAP benefits recipients in California will receive their emergency allotment benefits by Februry 13, 2023.

New Mexico has also been approved to distribute emergency allotments to its residents. SNAP benefits recipients in the state can receive their extra benefits between January 1, 2023, and January 31, 2023.

New SNAP benefits recipients in the state can expect to receive their emergency allotments within three days of being approved for food stamps.

Meanwhile, SNAP benefits recipients in Texas will receive their emergency allotments on a staggered schedule scheme, which would be between Janury 3, 2023, and January 10, 2023.

Food stamp benefits will be increasing by 12.5 due to the COLA hike, which started on October 1, 2022.

Along with the SNAP benefits increase, there will also be changes when it comes to the program's eligibility income limits and resource deduction, among others.

Food Stamp Payments

SNAP benefits help low-income households to purchase food for their families. The majority of retail stores accept food stamp payments through EBT cards linked to SNAP accounts.

Some states also allow their residents to do their purchases online through participating retailers.

U.S. Department of Agriculture noted that Amazon, Safeway, Walmart, and Whole Foods are among the stores participating in the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot program.

SNAP benefits recipients can buy SNAP-eligible items, such as fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, bread, cereals, snack foods, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Usually, hot meals are not an eligible item for SNAP benefits but some states such as Alaska, California, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, and Rhode Island participate in SNAP Restaurant Meals Program.
