Twitter Closes Seattle Office as It Faces Eviction After Elon Musk's Takeover; Security and Janitorial Services Also Removed
Twitter's Seattle office in Washington will be closing its doors after facing possible eviction. It is just one of the new developments after Elon Musk's takeover of the social media company.
Twitter's Seattle office has been at Century Square tower downtown since 2014. It can accommodate 200 workers.
However, court records do not show any eviction lawsuits pending against Twitter. Musk cut off 208 workers at the Seattle office in November after he completed his $44 billion Twitter acquisition.
The office closure is one of the latest moves Musk has imposed to cut costs at Twitter, asking employees to work from home.
Musk said earlier this month that the company was on its way to having a "negative cash flow situation" of $3 billion next year due to a lack of advertising and debt payments.
Twitter Seattle Office Closure
Twitter was reported to have stopped paying millions of dollars in rent and services over the past few weeks.
Elon Musk also reportedly told his subordinates to negotiate the agreements regarding the matter or simply end those.
Two people familiar with the matter confirmed that Twitter has stopped paying rent at its Seattle office, which caused it to face eviction, the New York Times reported.
In addition, janitorial and security services have also been cut. Some employees have also resorted to bringing their own toilet paper to the office.
The predicted negative cash flow of Twitter was one of the reasons that Musk said he was "cutting costs like crazy." Twitter has yet to remove its communications department.
An internal Twitter document showed that Musk sought to save around $500 million in nonlabor costs since early November. He has already laid off or fired around 75% of the company's workforce ever since he completed his Twitter buyout.
Musk previously said in a Twitter live forum that he had "a little over 2,000 people." He made the projections after he fired around 50 people from the company's infrastructure division.
He also laid off 30 employees from Twitter's public policy team. Recently, Twitter faced service interruptions, which caused clamor among users.

Twitter Service Interruptions
Twitter users complained about having challenges accessing their Twitter accounts on Wednesday. The hashtag #TwitterDown started trending worldwide, with more than 10,000 users reported.
Internet watchdog Netblocks noted that Twitter was experiencing "international outages," which affected the mobile app and features, including notifications.
The internet watchdog added that the incident was "not related to the country-level internet disruptions or filtering."
Elon Musk earlier laid off engineering and legal staff. The Twitter CEO later on tweeted that there had been "significant backend server architecture changes" and that Twitter should be faster.
Musk also tweeted that he was still able to use the social media platform, tweeting "works for me" when a user asked him if Twitter was broken.
More than 10,000 affected users were from the United States, around 2,500 from Japan, and approximately 2,500 from the United Kingdom.
