This year will be a turning point in Dave Bautista's acting career. He will be getting his most extensive speaking role to date in M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin" and an expanded role in the "Dune" sequel by Denis Villeneuve.

According to Variety, the buzz about "Glass Onion," in which the actor appeared, carried over into the new year.

According to the outlet, Bautista's final appearance as Drax the Destroyer will be in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," which marks his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although the character has lasted almost 10 years and seven separate MCU films, Bautista is more than ready to move on.

"I'm so grateful for Drax. I love him," the actor noted.

However, Bautista said it was a relief that it was finished, adding that "it wasn't all pleasant." The actor claimed the role was challenging, and the makeup process exhausted him.

"I just don't know if I want Drax to be my legacy - it's a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff," he said.

Bautista has much higher goals than what Marvel might give. The actor has defended his time as Drax, although he has also openly stated his displeasure with the part. 

According to Bautista, Marvel "dropped the ball" in doing Drax justice on the big screen.

"I really wished they would have invested more in Drax, personally," he noted.

Bautista said he believes Drax has a more exciting tale to tell and that the character has a very intriguing past that was neglected, and Marvel did not dig into that.

However, Bautista noted that he understands that Marvel must focus on its slate.

"But man, I think they missed the ball on Drax. He has such a great backstory," he said.

Dave Bautista Reveals He Wants to Be a Good, Respected Actor

Dave Bautista noted that what he truly wants to do is the regular old drama.

"Those roles for me are hard to get a hold of, but I'm constantly searching for them," he said during an interview with Michael Rosenbaum in 2020.

According to Bautista, he aspires to be "a good f***ing actor, a respected actor."

Now, more directors are offering him the opportunity to get the role he wants.

In an interview with GQ, Bautista talks of his impending part in M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock At The Cabin."

"It's by far the most I've ever spoken in a film. Just huge pages of monologues," he said, adding that they were taking an expensive shot, and since they only had one camera, editing was not an option.

He noted that it is their only chance; thus, they need the perfect take.

"I want to remember my dialogue, but not at the expense of losing the emotion of the scene," he said.
