Florida: Latina Congresswoman Slams MSNBC for 'Twisted Lie,' Trying To Paint Her as 'White Supremacist'
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Mexican-American congresswoman from Florida, retaliated against MSNBC on Sunday for what she termed a "hit piece" attempting to portray her as a "white supremacist."
In a tweet, Luna cited a post by MSNBC opinion columnist Julio Ricardo Varela and stated that it promoted a "twisted lie." A Luna's communications staff member, Edie Heipel, released a screenshot of her email after examining an NBC universal email to see whether the writer had requested comment.
A message left for Varela went unanswered.
According to Fox News, Varela disparaged Luna's relationship with Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and compared her to a "Latina version of Rep. Lauren Boebert," a Republican congresswoman from Colorado.

MSNBC's Article Against Florida Mexican-American Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna
The most Latino Congress ever is more progressive - and more MAGA, according to a piece on MSNBC.
A picture of Luna appeared with a different headline when the piece was first released: "Opinion: A MAGA Latina House member is not as shocking as you'd think," per Florida's Voice.
The article states that while Luna's election to the House of Representatives is interesting, the media must avoid concentrating too much emphasis on a lawmaker of Mexican heritage who is joined by a political organization that began by demonizing Mexicans.
Additionally, the writer claims that Turning Point USA is a "MAGA white supremacist cult" and that Luna has collaborated with them.
"A Latina version of Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., Luna, according to a summary of her career in the Tampa Bay Times, followed the MAGA playbook to gain political fame. She has ties to chief Kevin McCarthy opponent, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and has worked with what I consider to be a MAGA white supremacist cult: Turning Point USA," according to MSNBC Reporter Julio Ricardo Varela.
Charlie Kirk established Turning Point USA as a non-profit organization to identify, educate, train, and organize students to advocate for freedom.
Luna was the National Hispanic Outreach Director of Turning Point USA, where she previously worked with Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens.
Anna Paulina Luna Is Part of a Group of House Conservatives Who Flipped Their Vote to Elect Kevin McCarthy
Florida Mexican-American congresswoman, Anna Paulina Luna, made news this week for being one of 20 conservative House members who opposed the election of U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, as Speaker.
The organization and McCarthy negotiated for over a month before presenting their legislative amendments and reaching a "good faith" agreement.
Most of the House later switched their support to McCarthy, making him the new Speaker.
Possible reforms include allowing conservatives to introduce legislation and amendments, allowing any member to seek to oust Speaker McCarthy if he "goes back on promises," and capping expenditure for the next decade.
On Monday night, a vote will be taken on the new House rules package.
