Brazil Launches Investigation on Who Was Behind Brazilian Insurrection; Joe Biden Urged to Extradite Ex-President Jair Bolsonaro
In the months leading to the Brazilian elections, the United States was warned that then-Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro might try to pull off a Donald Trump-style coup attempt. A few days after Lula was sworn in, Bolsonaro supporters did just that.
Now, U.S. President Joe Biden is getting pressure to kick Bolsonaro out of the United States as the Brazilian ex-president is staying in Florida, near his "good friend," Donald Trump.
This also comes as Brazil announced that they are launching an investigation to see who was the true mastermind behind the Bolsonaro supporters' attack on the country's Congress, Supreme Court, and the presidential palace.
Much like Donald Trump, Bolsonaro refused to acknowledge that he lost the elections and has been spreading misinformation that the elections were stolen in favor of the winner and current president, Lula. He had also been teasing that the people might also try a coup similar to Donald Trump's January 6 insurrection.
Brazil Government Cracks Down on Jair Bolsonaro Supporters Who Stormed Capital
After thousands of Bolsonaro supporters stormed the Brazilian capital and overran Congress and the Supreme Court before surrounding the presidential palace, Brazilian authorities went on a counter-offensive and swiftly arrested many of the rioters.
The rioters were camped near a military building as they tried urging the military to help them oust Lula and install Bolsonaro as president. However, authorities soon raided that camp and arrested approximately 1,200 Bolsonaro supporters,

The raid happened on Monday, and on that same day, Brazilian authorities announced that they have launched an investigation to look into who was really behind that shocking uprising, though many believe that this was Bolsonaro all along.
Many of these rioters believed that Bolsonaro should have won the elections because of faulty election equipment, which was one of the many excuses Donald Trump had tried to give to his supporters, something Bolsonaro also did. However, neither Trump nor Bolsonaro could back their claims.
According to the Associated Press, Bolsonaro's son had been meeting with Donald Trump and his notable allies, including Steve Bannon and Jason Miller, prior to the uprising in Brazil.
Joe Biden Urged to Expel Jair Bolsonaro Back to Brazil
Reuters reported that Bolsonaro was hospitalized for abdominal pain in a local hospital in Orlando, Florida. This happened a day before his supporters stormed several government buildings in Brasilia.
The far-right leader had been suffering stomach problems since getting stabbed before the 2018 Brazilian elections. He left Brazil just as Lula took power, refusing to do the ceremonial handing of the Presidential sash to his successor.
However, now that his supporters have launched a coup in Brazil, U.S. President Joe Biden is facing increased pressure to expel him from the country and back to Brazil where he might face justice.
According to NBC News, these calls to have Bolsonaro expelled came from Democrats, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Corte of New York, Joaquin Castro of Texas, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Mark Takano of California.
Biden has not yet talked to Lula about the situation, with White House national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, admitting that there still have been no requests for extradition from Brazil regarding their former president.
