Joe Biden Classified Documents Scandal: Foul Play Possible?
Georgia Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson has indicated he is not ruling out the possibility of foul play in the Joe Biden classified documents scandal.
"Alleged classified documents showing up allegedly in the possession of Joseph Biden... I'm suspicious of the timing of it," Hank Johnson told Hillary Vaughn of Fox News Thursday following the discovery of the second batch of documents in Biden's garage in Wilmington, Delaware.
He also said that he was aware that objects could be placed on people or hidden in strategic locations before being discovered.
"That may be what has occurred here. I'm not ruling that out. But I'm open in terms of the investigation needs to be investigated," he continued.
Biden told Peter Doocy, the White House correspondent for Fox News, that he knew the documents were in his garage, despite Hank Johnson's suggestion that they may have been planted.
Doocy asked the president if the documents were locked in the garage, to which Biden answered: "Yes, as well as my Corvette."
Trump-Appointed Ex-Federal Prosecutor To Investigate on Joe Biden Classified Documents Scandal
Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur, a former federal prosecutor chosen by Ex-President Donald Trump Thursday, to investigate the Joe Biden Classified Documents Scandal.
While making the statement, Republicans demanded that Garland apply the same standard to Biden that he did to Trump, where he appointed a special prosecutor to supervise the investigations in November.
Garland's announcement came as pressure on the White House mounts to explain how the documents ended up in Biden's possession, why their presence was not publicized until after the midterm election, and what is being done about it.
Richard Sauber, the White House special counsel, said about Hur's appointment that they were sure that a thorough review would establish that these records were unintentionally misplaced. The president and his lawyers moved immediately upon learning of this mistake.
This event may prove to be a turning point in Biden's presidency, per The Daily Mail.
While Republicans have focused on his son Hunter Biden's business connections and established a special committee to investigate the "weaponization" of the federal government, he has managed to avoid any legal trouble so far.
Pres. Joe Biden Claims He's Not Aware That Government Records With Classified Documents Were Taken to His Private Office
Biden claimed on Tuesday that he had no idea that confidential materials from his tenure as vice president had been moved to his private office after he left public service.
While in Mexico City for a trilateral summit with the leaders of Mexico and Canada, Biden was asked by a reporter about the possibility of any federal records having been transported to an office there.
"I was surprised to learn there were any government records that were taken there to that office," Biden answered.
Biden stressed that he had no idea what was found in his office at the University of Pennsylvania's honorary professorship building in Washington, DC.
Citing two sources familiar with the case, CNN reported earlier that Biden and his White House legal staff do not know what is contained in the classified documents since they have not reviewed them.
A different source familiar with the situation told CNN that some of the classified documents are US intelligence memoranda and briefing materials covering themes like Ukraine, Iran, and the United Kingdom.
One source familiar with the situation said Biden did not know the records were there and did not find out until his lawyers contacted the White House counsel's office.
A source explained the president does not know what is in the documents because the White House does not want to appear to meddle with the Justice Department's investigation.
Biden's lawyers uncovered the records in November while packing files, and the counsel's office then informed the National Archives and Records Administration, according to the White House.
It also said that Biden's attorneys turned over the records to the National Archives the day after they were discovered.
They continue to cooperate as the U.S. attorney in Chicago investigates the situation.
