Miley Cyrus' Hit 'Flowers' Gets Stamp of Approval From 'I Will Survive' Singer Gloria Gaynor
There have been many comparisons between Miley Cyrus' new single "Flowers," released less than a week ago, and Gloria Gaynor's 1978 smash "I Will Survive," and Gaynor loves it.
The 79-year-old disco icon recently posted her approval of Cyrus' new song on Instagram. The song, dropped Friday, is the first single from Cyrus' upcoming eighth studio album, "Endless Summer Vacation," which will be released on March 10, according to Billboard.
In an Instagram post, Gaynor shared a clip from the "Flowers" music video and said, "I'm in Nashville working on new music and just heard, "Flowers," for the first time, @MileyCyrus...."
"Your new song carries the torch of empowerment and encourages everyone to find strength in themselves to persevere and thrive. Well done, Miley!" Gaynor continued.
Netizens have noticed some striking similarities between "Flowers" and "I Will Survive." A mashup of the two songs has recently been making the rounds on Twitter.
Since "Flowers" is so close in the message to "I Will Survive," some have speculated that Cyrus intentionally interpolated Gaynor's self-love anthem at specific instances, particularly during the choruses.
Some also noticed similarities in the lyrics and melodies between "Flowers" and Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man."

Miley Cyrus' 'Flowers' Sparks Rumor That Ex-Husband Liam Hemsworth Cheated on Her
The release of Miley Cyrus' new single has spurred rumors that her ex-husband, actor Liam Hemsworth, cheated on her.
The two became romantically involved while filming 2009's "The Last Song" and attended the film's premiere as a couple in 2010.
After a string of breakups, Cyrus and Hemsworth got engaged in 2012, only to call off the engagement the following year.
Once again together by 2017, the pair tied the knot on December 2018, not long after their home was destroyed by fire, but by August of the following year, they announced their separation.
Since their divorce, not much has been heard about Cyrus and Hemsworth until earlier this year, when Cyrus announced the release of her new single "Flowers" will be on January 13, Hemsworth's birthday, Newsweek reported.
The timing sparked many rumors about the former couple, and the release of the song and its music video led to more speculation.
However, some fans seem to have forgotten that Cyrus has already talked about cheating in her marriage in the past.
Miley Cyrus' 'Flowers' Triggers Rumors
One Twitter rumor that went viral after Miley Cyrus dropped "Flowers" claimed that Liam Hemsworth cheated on her with 14 women in the same house where they filmed the music video.
This rumor started after a pop-culture Twitter account called Pop Tingz tweeted: "The house where the music video for Miley Cyrus' 'Flowers' was recorded was previously used by Liam Hemsworth to cheat on Miley with more than 14 women while they were married."
The tweet has been shared and liked hundreds of times, but a reliable news outlet has yet to confirm it.
Another rumor claimed that Cyrus' "Flowers" is a direct reference to Bruno Mars' 2012 single "When I Was Your Man," which Hemsworth reportedly dedicated to Cyrus during their wedding, She Finds reported.
A line from Mars' song that seemed to back up this theory is, "I should've bought you flowers and held your hand." In the song "Flowers," Miley Cyrus sings, "I can buy myself flowers," and later, "I can hold my own hand."
