Pedro Pascal: Some Interesting Facts About 'The Last of Us' Star

Pedro Pascal started his career by guest-starring on different TV shows. He has appeared in more than 50 various projects, including movies and podcast series, aside from TV shows. However, "The Last of Us" reportedly cemented Pascal's place in the action genre.

In light of the success of the TV adaptation of "The Last of Us," which is already being heralded as the best video game adaptation of all time, here are some interesting facts about its star, Pedro Pascal.

Rough Childhood

The 47-year-old actor was born Jose Pedro Balmaceda Pascal in Santiago, Chile. His family fled to the U.S. after they found asylum when he was nine months old.

Pedro Pascal was raised in California and Texas when he was older. His father was a fertility doctor who, along with other doctors, got slapped with accusations of egg swapping and tax evasion.

According to The Thing, Pascal's mom worked as a child psychologist, but she had mental health issues and killed herself when he was a teenager. Pascal used her surname professionally to honor her because it is easier to pronounce than his father's.

Siblings

Pedro Pascal is not the only one in the family in the public eye. He has three siblings, and his younger sister, Lux, is an actress in Chile who starred in film and television and on the stage.

Lux Pascal reportedly came out as transgender in 2021 and became an activist in the transgender community. Little is known about Pascal's older sister Javiera, and his younger brother, Nicolás, as they keep their lives private.

Likes Indiana Jones and Swimming

When he was a young boy, Pedro Pascal looked up to many heroic characters, but among his favorites was legendary treasure hunter Indiana Jones.

The actor reportedly reenacted scenes from the films, which were the cause of breaking his arm twice. Competitive swimming was also one of his favorite pastimes when he was young.

He started entering state championships in Texas when he was 11. He only dropped the sport after he started taking drama classes and dedicated his time to theater.

Pedro Pascal Was Desperate to Join 'The Last of Us' Cast

Pedro Pascal previously revealed that he wanted to be in another HBO series like "The Last of Us" as he wished to work with Craig Mazin.

Mazin is "The Last of Us" showrunner who also created the acclaimed limited series "Chernobyl." His wish to work with Mazin rose out of the necessity to be close to greatness, FandomWire reported.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Pascal said: "I knew 'Chernobyl,' which is unrelated to the game, is Craig Mazin's show, and I would've, I don't know, murdered somebody to work with Craig I suppose. That's a horrible public confession to make, but that was my introduction."

Still Single With No Children

Pedro Pascal does not talk much about his dating life, but he is reportedly not married and has no children.

Pedro Pascal Isn't Gay, But Rumors Flatter Him

Pedro Pascal has been the subject of a recurrent gay rumor. As seen on his Instagram, Pascal has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights for quite some time, Suggest reported.

The actor has a close tie to the LGBTQ community through his sister Lux. Pascal has famously played Oberyn Martell, an openly bisexual character, in the "Game Of Thrones."

Around that time, a group in Reddit seemingly comprised of straight men declared themselves "Gay For Oberyn." In 2017, Pascal told Los Angeles Times that he was flattered.

"It's so wonderful. I think it's all a spectrum, right? Straight men can have - do have - crushes on other men. It doesn't make them gay, it doesn't make them bi. I was super-flattered," the actor said.

Pedro Pascal is good friends with another successful Latino leading actor, Oscar Isaac. They became best friends after meeting on the set of an off-Broadway play "Beauty of the Father" in 2005.
