Las Vegas police on Tuesday arrested former "Dances With Wolves" actor Nathan Chasing Horse after he was accused of running a cult and sexually assaulting young Indigenous girls.

Before he was arrested, the Associated Press reported that police raided the North Las Vegas home of Nathan Lee Chasing His Horse, who goes by Nathan Chasing Horse, that allegedly turned into a cult leader. He was apprehended near his house he reportedly shared with his five wives.

SWAT officers surrounded the two-story house as detectives combed the area in the evening. Chasing Horse gained fame as the young Sioux tribe member Smiles a Lot in Kevin Costner's Oscar-winning film.

He acquired a reputation among American and Canadian tribes as a so-called medicine man performing healing ceremonies and spiritual gatherings. Police said he allegedly used his position to abuse young Native American girls.

A police tip in October 2022 led to the monthslong probe that resulted in his arrest. The AP has obtained a 50-page search warrant that cited Chasing Horse as the leader of a cult called "The Circle." It comes at a time when legislators and state attorneys general in the U.S. are considering establishing specialized units to handle Native women's cases.

'Dances With Wolves' Actor Nathan Chasing Horse's Nevada Sex Abuse Case

According to 8 News Now investigators, the "Dances with Wolves" star is accused of preying on vulnerable indigenous girls, even taking them across state lines.

Nathan Chasing Horse allegedly told them that spirits wanted them to have sex with him and that they would be part of "The Circle." In some cases, sources told 8 News Now that the actor may have recorded himself while doing the sexual assaults.

Las Vegas police reportedly spent hours investigating his home even after he was arrested. Among the officers' concerns was the possibility of having unsecured guns inside the house, even with children present at times.

Sources also said that Chasing Horse may have planned that if cops showed up, the women present should take "suicide pills" and be ready for a gunfight. Police noted that Chasing Horse preyed on girls from single-parent homes with no father figure and subjected them to repeated physical and sexual abuse.

Allegations against the actor also include child abuse, sexual assault of a child younger than 16, and sex trafficking that forces the victims to have sex with men.

Nathan Chasing Horse Has Been Doing His Crimes for Decades

The AP reported that the Las Vegas police have identified six victims and uncovered sexual allegations against the actor dating back to the early 2000s in several states, including Montana, South Dakota, and Nevada, where he has lived for about 10 years.

Nathan Chasing Horse was born in South Dakota's Rosebud Reservation, home to the Sicangu Sioux, one of the seven Lakota tribes, CBS News reported. After being accused of human trafficking in 2018, the actor was expelled from the Fort Peck Reservation in Poplar, Montana.

Some of Chasing Horse's followers believed he could speak with higher beings and referred to him as "Medicine Man" or "Holy Person." According to the arrest warrant, some victims were as young as 13, and one of the actor's wives was allegedly offered to him as a "gift" when she was 15, while another girl became his wife after turning 16.

The warrant noted that the arrest stemmed from crimes allegedly committed in Nevada's Clark County, despite including details of crimes reported elsewhere.
