The "Little People, Big World" star Zach Roloff had a terrifying trip to a hospital for an emergency brain surgery. According to his wife Tori Roloff, who provided fans an update on the "scary 72 hours" on Thursday, Zach had emergency surgery to repair a shunt in his brain, TMZ reported.

She also shared pictures of him in the hospital in the Instagram post. The images show Zach's head wrapped up and still hooked up to monitors.

Tori has expressed her gratitude to everyone who has prayed for Zach while hoping for a quick and smooth recovery. She also called him a "rockstar" for everything he has gone through. She also thanked the neurosurgeon team for their help.

Tori also thanked Zach's mom, Amy, for keeping things together, and Amy replied, "You're a trooper as well Tori. I'm glad I could be here so you could be there with him."

Johns Hopkins defines a shunt as a hollow tube surgically inserted in the brain, or sometimes in the spine, to help drain cerebrospinal fluid and divert that fluid to a different area in the body for reabsorption. 

As Medline explains, cerebrospinal fluid is a liquid that bathes and nourishes the brain and spinal cord. The fluid's cushioning effect helps keep the brain and spinal cord safe from harm in the event of a fall or other trauma.

Two days before Zach's surgery, Tori asked for prayers for Zach and their family on her Instagram Stories, Us Magazine reported. On Tuesday, Tori said they had discovered Zach's shunt needed a repair and "will have surgery in the morning," while admitting that she was hesitant to go public with her husband's condition.

She continued: "they say it's routine surgery, but it's far from my routine, and Zach and I are nervous. It feels big to us, but we trust his doctors and their ability and knowledge!"

Zach's father, Matt Roloff, gave an update on his son's condition the next day. He said their family has been in constant communication, adding that they were all praying for Zach. 

"He's in good hands with Tori advocating tooth and nail for his best interest... all prayers up please for Zach's successful recovery," he said via Instagram.

Zach Roloff's Brain Surgery Comes Less Than a Year After Introducing His Youngest Child

The terrifying brain surgery occurred less than a year after Zach Roloff's wife gave birth to their third child, son Josiah Luke, The Daily Mail reported.

The pair told People in May of 2022 that Josiah is affected by dwarfism. Given that Zach and their other two children, Jackson, 5, and Lylah, 3, share the same form of dwarfism, the reality star couple was prepared for the news. According to Tori, Josiah's siblings are "slightly obsessed with him, and it is adorable." 

"They're just both very concerned about where he is, what he is doing. They take turns feeding him the bottle and want to bring him blankies and binkies," she noted.

She added that following the birth of her third kid, she was not ruling out the possibility of having more kids in the future. The "Little People, Big World" couple announced Josiah's pregnancy just eight months after Tori had a miscarriage.
