Did Ariana DeBose Deactivate Her Twitter After the 'Awkward' 2023 BAFTA Rap?
The rap performance by Ariana DeBose during the 2023BAFTAs has had many divided, with some ridiculing her performance while others loved it. However, the actress seems to have deactivated her Twitter account amid criticisms of her performance.
According to Consequence Film, many of those that the Oscar Award-winning actress mentioned in her rap performance were visibly uncomfortable when the camera panned to them. DeBose was rapping about the biggest women in film and she mentioned the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Hong Chau, and Emma Thompson, as well as Viola Davis and Angela Bassett.
"Angela Bassett did the thing/ Viola Davis, my Woman King/ Blanchett, Cate, you're a genius/ Jamie Lee, you are all of us," she rapped as many in the audience did not seem to look comfortable during the performance. As of writing, the former Hamilton actress's Twitter account has been disabled though it is still not certain if this had anything to do with her performance during BAFTA.

BAFTA Producer Defends Ariana DeBose Rap
BAFTA did go out of their way to defend Ariana DeBose, with producer Nick Bullen stating that he "absolutely loved" the actress's performance during the British awards ceremony. He also called people mocking her "incredibly unfair, to be frank."
"Everybody I've spoken to who was in the room absolutely loved it. She's a huge star. She was amazing," the BAFTA producer stated in a recent interview. He added that people were "sort of dancing to the music" and that everyone was seen clapping.
He stated that it had been a great year for women in film and that they wanted to celebrate that with DeBose's performance. He also admitted that he and the actress, together with her team, were the ones responsible for putting that performance together, according to USA Today.
He continued to praise DeBose, saying, "She only had a few weeks to put this whole thing together," and that the actress worked with a great musical director and choreographer. He also stated that their goal for this year was to have the BAFTAs feel less "stiff" and to capture the "razzmatazz" of an American awards show.
