King Charles III Coronation Concert: Harry Styles, Elton John Turn Down Offer to Perform
After being rejected by Adele and Ed Sheeran, other British artists, like Harry Styles and Elton John, were also invited to perform at King Charles III's coronation concert.
However, Fox News reported that Harry Styles, Elton John, as well as Robbie Williams, and the Spice Girls had all declined the invitation to perform in a special coronation concert at Windsor Castle on May 7.
Royal experts talked about the upcoming coronation concert, as no artist has agreed yet to perform on stage. Christopher Andersen, author of "The King," told the outlet that he would not "panic quite yet," as far as lining up performers for the coronation concert.
Andersen noted that Joss Stone, a friend of the younger royals, "can usually be counted on" and that there was "also a long list of American pop stars chomping at the bit to perform."
The royal author went on to say that Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, and Andrea Bocelli, who performed during the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee last year, would likely be invited again.
Andersen further noted that there were plenty of options, and the coronation team would be "crazy" not to ask Madonna, who has a massive 40th-anniversary tour this summer.
Harry Styles and Elton John Invited to King Charles III Coronation Concert
Three U.K.-based artists had turned down the invite due to their busy schedules. Harry Styles is currently on his concert tour, named Love On Tour. According to Daily Mail, he will perform in Coventry in May. On the other hand, Spice Girls were said to reunite for the coronation.
They were reportedly coming back together for the coronation concert but now appeared to have turned down the performance. The girl group, composed of Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner, and Emma Bunton, split up in 2000. Elton John was the third British star who was reportedly approached but also turned down.
The iconic boyband Take That and sisters Kylie and Dannii Minogue will reportedly perform at the coronation concert with Lionel Richie. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks. A source told Daily Mail that the "biggest names and acts in the world music" are being invited to the coronation concert.
Ed Sheeran previously said he will perform in Texas the day before the coronation concert, while Adele reportedly turned down the invitation "without explanation."
King Charles III Coronation
The BBC will reportedly suspend the license fee as part of a one-off dispensation for King Charles III's coronation. It would allow venues to screen the live coronation ceremony coverage on May 6 and May 7 without needing to buy a TV license.
BBC granted the dispensation in exceptional circumstances, with the event needing to be of national importance, The Guardian reported. The public should be able to watch the ceremony for free. The license fee was also removed during the late queen's Platinum Jubilee in June last year.
According to reports, Camilla will be officially called "Queen" after her coronation alongside her husband, Charles. Independent reported that Queen Elizabeth said before her death last September that it was her "sincere wish" that Camilla will be known as "Queen Consort" while she continues "her own loyal service."
Buckingham Palace officials are reportedly looking for past precedents, including the titles used for the king's grandfather's wife. King Charles and Camilla got married in April 2005, with the Queen Consort receiving the title of Duchess of Cornwall after their marriage.
