Arizona Supreme Court Rejects Most of Kari Lake's Appeal Over Gubernatorial Race
After months of challenging the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race that resulted in her loss to Democrat Katie Hobbs, Republican Kari Lake was slapped with another legal defeat.
According to the Associated Press, the state Supreme Court has rejected to hear most of Lake's appeal in a challenge of her loss in the race. However, it revived a claim that a lower court dismissed.
In an order, Arizona's highest court said on Wednesday that a trial court had erroneously junked Lake's claim challenging the application of signature verification procedures on early ballots in Maricopa County.
The Supreme Court sent the claim back to the lower court to consider and dismissed everything else. Lake has focused on the ballot printer problems some polling places around Maricopa County faced.
She claimed that these "defective" printers produced ballots that were too light to be read by the on-site tabulators at polling places, resulting in long lines and confusion. She alleged that this was a result of intentional misconduct.
However, Maricopa County officials have noted that everyone was able to vote, and all ballots have been counted. The Arizona Court of Appeal rejected Lake's assertion last month.
It concluded that she had no evidence that voters whose ballots were unreadable by tabulators at polling places were not able to vote.
According to a decision by the state appeals court, even a witness presented by Lake's team confirmed ballots that could not initially be read at polling places may ultimately have been counted.
One of the reasons for Lake's failed bid may be her rift with traditional Republicans in the state, particularly John McCain Republicans who supported Hobbs.

Kari Lake Calls for Prayers for Donald Trump as Former President Faces Indictments
Kari Lake's biggest ally, former president Donald Trump. may be beginning a long legal odyssey.
According to The Independent, the failed Republican gubernatorial candidate was asking for prayers before the state Supreme Court rejected most of her motions. Among those prayers was for supporters to also pray for Trump, but she did it indirectly.
In a video she posted to Twitter, Lake asked supporters for a "bigger prayer - an end to corruption, a restoration of God's glory, and a restoration of our God-given rights."
She added that this is "the best thing you can do for me is to pray for our Country and the safety of our Country," a Twitter quote from the former president.
Candidates Like Kari Lake Are Amplifying Republican Party Anxiety Over MAGA Candidates in 2024
While Kari Lake is trying to rally her MAGA base for Donald Trump, she and fellow failed Republican MAGA candidate Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano has concerned many in the GOP.
As 2024 approaches, many of those who lost in 2022 are teasing that they are running again. According to The Hill, other Republicans are warning against writing them off as possible GOP nominees again.
"There are people out there that just won't go away... All the folks out there that want to say, 'Oh, they're nobodies, they don't matter' - they need a reality check. Kari Lake doesn't speak for the whole party, but she's loud; she knows how to get attention. And, at least to an extent, it holds the rest of the party back," a Republican strategist familiar with Senate campaigns told The Hill.
Candidates like Lake have not backed down on claims that Trump lost the 2020 presidential elections. However, while they might win against fellow Republicans in primaries, as 2022 showed, these might not spell the same for the general elections.
