Foster Moreau, a free-agent tight end, has revealed that he has Hodgkin's lymphoma and will no longer play in the NFL.

According to Fox News, the 25-year-old, who played for Las Vegas Raiders for the past four seasons, announced his cancer diagnosis on Twitter following a physical checkup conducted by the Saints' medical staff in New Orleans.

"Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this free agency period has been life changing for me," Foster Moreau wrote, adding that he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, so he will be stepping away from football "to fight a new opponent: Cancer."

"I'm grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me. There hasn't been a single step I've taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance," he added.

Hodgkin's Lymphoma

According to Mayo Clinic, Hodgkin's lymphoma is a cancer that manifests in the lymphatic system, which usually functions to prevent infection.

Hodgkin's lymphoma is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of lymphocytes, which are white blood cells that cause the development of swollen lymph nodes and lymphadenopathy.

Hodgkin's lymphoma patients now have a better chance of fully recovering thanks to improvements in diagnosis and treatment. The average age of a person diagnosed with it is 39, making it most prevalent in early adulthood.

The American Cancer Society reported that the current five-year survival rate for all diagnosed patients is approximately 89%, MARCA reported.

Foster Moreau's Career

After four years with the  Raiders, where he was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and served as the team's No. 2 tight end behind Pro Bowler Darren Waller, Moreau was poised to cash in big time in free agency this offseason.

Last year, the LSU alum caught a career-high 33 passes for 420 yards and two scores on 54 targets, Yahoo Sports reported.

Throughout the past two seasons, he filled in admirably for former Raiders tight end Darren Waller when he was injured, according to FanNation.

Moreau has spent four years in Silver and Black, accumulating 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 2023 NFL Draft will be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, from April 27 to April 29.

The 2023 NFL season and the free agency started on March 15. The Raiders are considered significant players in the free-agent market this season.

Foster Moreau is right when he calls the discovery miraculous, but the Saints have an unexpected track record of identifying major health issues among their players, SaintsWire reported.

Long snapper Jon Dorenbos found out in the summer of 2017 that he had an aortic aneurysm that needed open-heart surgery. That was the same time former Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley was told he had a heart problem that would end his career.

But their diagnosis showed that early detection could make a big difference in the treatment and outcome of various health conditions.
