Authorities in South Texas discovered 12 migrants trapped inside a freight train boxcar after a desperate 911 call from one of the migrants.

However, officials said one migrant was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others required hospitalization.

According to ABC News, the discovery happened Saturday afternoon near Eagle Pass, Texas, and it came just a day after 17 migrants were found locked in a "suffocating" train freight container in Uvalde County. During that incident, two people were found dead.

Somebody inside the boxcar parked at a Union Pacific rail yard reportedly called 911, and authorities arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Authorities rescued the 12 migrants trapped inside, though it was too late for one of them. Union Pacific then contacted Border Patrol that detained the eight other survivors.

Second Texas Train's Migrants' Nationalities Revealed

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has launched a human smuggling investigation into the matter, though no further arrests have yet been made as of this writing.

The Mexican consulate has revealed that it was aware of the incident and that the migrant who died was an adult Mexican national.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, not all the migrants inside the train car were Mexican, as there were also people from Ecuador, Honduras, and Colombia.

The three migrants that needed medical treatment were sent to a Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center in Eagle Pass. Union Pacific, which owns the train that the migrants were found in, condemned the use of their train cars for human trafficking.

"We have strict policies in place to prevent unauthorized access of our trains, and we do not condone or facilitate illegal activity," the train company said in a statement.

"Safety is a top priority, and we will continue to work with law enforcement and immigration officials to determine how to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future," it added.

Uvalde Texas Train Incident Where Two Migrants Died

As for the earlier incident, the 17 migrants were found inside a different train car in sweltering conditions. Two died, while 10 of the survivors had to be transported by helicopter and ambulance to nearby hospitals.

The migrants who died were identified as adult men from Honduras, according to U.S. Homeland Security investigations. As for the survivors, there were two adult women, while the rest were all adult men.

As for the deaths of the Honduran migrants, the exact causes are yet to be determined by police, saying that it was likely heat-related. The train car was found on Friday, and temperatures around the area reached 90 degrees that day.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, four of the immigrants were taken to various hospitals in San Antonio, while six others were taken to nearby hospitals.

The University Hospital at San Antonio's South Texas Medical Center took two of the most critically-injured migrants described as being in critical condition. The Methodist Hospital took two of the ones in stable condition.
