Joe Biden Will Not Attend King Charles Coronation
U.S. President Joe Biden will reportedly be a no-show at the King Charles coronation in May, with reports claiming that the president wants instead to prioritize an April 11 trip to Northern Ireland.
Sources noted that Biden insisted that his relationship with King Charles was "strong" and might make time to meet him when he visits Northern Ireland, according to The Daily Beast.
Instead of attending personally, Biden might send a delegation composing "high-profile representatives." His wife, First Lady Jill Biden may go to Charles's coronation, with the president reportedly being careful to avoid any speculations that the royal event is being snubbed.
Coronation guests have already been sent invitations by Buckingham Palace and were told to "save the date" of the ceremony while some were asked to RSVP to the palace by Monday.
The events will be attended by leaders from Ireland, France, Spain, Belgium, Japan, Hungary, and Monaco.
The newly-elected First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, said that he will be present at Charles's coronation despite being a republican.
Joe Biden To Miss King Charles Coronation
Biden will be visiting Northern Ireland in April for an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
In addition, the Telegraph reported that Biden is preparing to announce his intention to run for re-election in the 2024 presidential race.
Bob Seely, a Conservative MP on the foreign affairs select committee, said that the White House made a "foolish decision" and called on the U.S. president to rethink his schedule.
Seely described the coronation as a "once-in-a-lifetime" happening, adding that Biden should come as the leader of state.
The Conservative MP went on to say that if he was the U.S. President, he would in attendance of the event.
One source familiar with the matter said that there may still be "some efforts underway" to see if the president can be persuaded to come to Charles's coronation.
King Charles Coronation
The coronation will be held on Saturday, May 6. Afterwards, there would be performances and a bank holiday on Monday to continue the festivities.
A concert will occur on May 7, Sunday, which will feature performances from artists invited.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry came back to the United Kingdom amid the uncertainty of his attendance and his family at his father's coronation.
The Duke of Sussex was in England for a London hearing in his claim against Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers, which he alleged of doing illicit gathering of information.
However, Harry will not be meeting Charles or his brother Prince William during his return.
The King has personally picked the music for the ceremony and will feature 12 newly-commissioned pieces such as an anthem from Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.
BBC News noted that there will also be Greek Orthodox music in memory of the King's father, Prince Philip. The Duke of Edinburgh was born in Greece.
It was reported that the normal capacity of the venue is around 2,200 and seems likely that it will also be the maximum number on this occasion.
