A California dermatologist was indicted for allegedly poisoning her husband. Yue "Emily" Yu was caught by her husband on a nanny cam pouring a "Drano-like" cleaner into his morning tea in an attempt to kill him.

Law&Crime reported that the California dermatologist was indicted on charges of poisoning and domestic abuse.

Her husband of 10 years, Jack Chen, alleged years of abuse by his wife and her mother at their home in Irvine City in Orange County, California.

An attorney, who is speaking on Chen's behalf, called the allegations insidious. Lawter Steven Hittleman told Law&Crime that Yu wanted Chen to suffer, adding that this is just "another form of domestic violence she used against him."

However, Yu's attorney, Scott Simmons, argued that the kitchen in the family home had an ant problem, and Chen staged such events to take advantage of his wife in divorce court.

Simmons said Chen claimed to have sustained injuries by drinking the Drano, but medical evidence is inconsistent with him having consumed the liquid drain cleaner.

Yu's attorney went on to say that the injuries were attributable to a benign condition of GERD.

California Dermatologist Indicted

Court documents noted that Jack Chen has videos of three separate occasions of his wife "pouring Drano," which was taken from under their kitchen sink and started pouring it into his lemonade.

In one of the videos, Chen said his hot lemonade was covered with plastic wrap. He noted that it then shows Yu taking the liquid drain cleaner from under the sink, removing the cover, and pouring it, CNN reported.

He went on to accuse his wife that she then replaced the cellophane and placed the liquid drain cleaner back. Chen has turned over samples of the tea he was drinking to the Irvin Police Department.

It was then later turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for testing, which confirmed that the substance was consistent with the liquid drain cleaner.

Steven Hittleman said Chen has physically recovered from the injuries from the poison. Chen was diagnosed with two stomach ulcers, gastritis, and inflammation of his esophagus.

California Dermatologist Poisoning Husband

According to DA's office, Jack Chen started setting up the camera in early April 2022 when he tasted something "strange" in his drinks daily.

NBC News reported that the cameras caught what Chen alleged was poisoning. Yue "Emily" Yu could face a sentence of eight years and eight months if convicted. She will be arraigned on April 18.

Yu was arrested in August after suspicions of poisoning were reported to the police. However, she went free a day after posting a $30,000 bond.

Yu and Chen have been involved in a child custody dispute since last year, with Yu having recently filed to have him financially support her. Yu claimed that she has been unable to work since the allegations surfaced.

Chen claimed in a restraining order he filed that both their children have suffered "physical, verbal, and emotional abuse" at the hands of Yu and their maternal grandmother.
