Former President Donald Trump arrived in New York City on Thursday to participate in a deposition for a civil lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James alleging him of business fraud.

According to Raw Story, Trump's motorcade  was greeted by crowds chanting "New York hates you" upon arrival at the Attorney General's office in Manhattan just before 10 a.m.

A tweeted video of the protesters by Washington Post reporter Shayna Jacobs showed them chanting, "New York hates you."

There were also Trump supporters in the area, with one MAGA supporter carrying a banner that read, "Trump or Death," with the image of the former president and the year 2024. The man clarified that it was "not my death."

The Independent reported that another video showed Trump holding his fist up in a show of defiance as he left Trump Tower before heading to downtown Manhattan.

It was the first time Trump returned to New York since he was arrested and pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to the hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.

Donald Trump Civil Lawsuit

Donald Trump's second deposition on Thursday is part of the civil lawsuit case filed against him, some of his children, and his company.

The lawsuit is seeking $250 million while also banning the former president's ability to operate a business in the state of New York. The Trumps have denied having any wrongdoing, CNN reported.

Trump's attorney Alina Habba said in a statement that the former president "remains resolute in his stance that he has nothing to conceal, and he looks forward to educating the attorney general about the immense success of his multi-billion dollar company."

Trump's three children named in the case were Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump, who were also called by the attorney general's office last year.

Ivanka and Donald Jr. provided answers to prosecutors, while Eric invoked his Fifth Amendment right in 2020 in his response to over 500 questions.

Donald Trump New York Arraignment

Donald Trump turned himself in last Tuesday to authorities in New York, where he was arraigned on 34 counts of falsifying business records in relation to the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels. 

Prosecutors claimed that Trump had illegally altered company documents to hide $130,000 in reimbursements to his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen for paying the porn star before the 2016 election.

Daniels was reportedly paid to keep quiet about their alleged romance. The ex-president has maintained his innocence by denying it.

Former Playboy model Karen McDougal was also reportedly given $150,000 after admitting her relationship with Trump.

During his Mar-a-Lago speech just hours after his arraignment, the former president told supporters that the only crime he committed was to "fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it."

CNBC reported that Trump was not due back in court until December.
