3 Americans Go Missing While on Sailing Trip From Mexico to San Diego
Three Americans sailing from Mexico to San Diego have been reported missing for almost two weeks now, and the U.S. Coast Guard and Mexican Navy have continued to search for them.
The Coast Guard noted that the missing Americans, identified as Kerry O'Brien, Frank O'Brien, and William Gross, reportedly left Mazatlán, Mexico, on their way to San Diego on April 4, Fox News reported.
"Three persons aboard the sailing vessel Ocean Bound, a 44-foot La Fitte, reportedly left Mazatlán en route to San Diego," the Coast Guard said Friday. "The sailors planned to stop in Cabo San Lucas on April 6 for provisions and to report in before continuing on to San Diego."
However, this never happened, with the vessel not reporting to any other location. The three missing American sailors reportedly last made contact with other people on April 4, when they were near Mazatlan.
The District 11 Coast Guard, which covers California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona and offshore waters of Mexico and Central America, has launched an operation to locate the missing vessel and the three Americans.
"Search and rescue coordinators have contacted marinas throughout Baja, Mexico, with negative sightings of the vessel," said the Coast Guard, adding that "urgent marine information broadcasts have been issued over VHF radio requesting all mariners to keep a lookout for the missing persons and vessel."

American Siblings Missing in Mexico Already Found
Two American siblings, Hugo Yarset Monfort Luna Hugo Yarset Monfort Luna, 9, and his 16-year-old sister, Aranza Yosemiti Monfort Luna, were reported missing in Mexico last month.
The two reportedly left home in the Real de San Felipe neighborhood in the municipality of Garcia in Mexico's state of Nuevo Leon on March 17, and they failed to return.
But less than a week later, the U.S. Sun reported that the two American siblings were found alive in Nuevo Leon and in "good health."
They were reportedly traveling around 612 miles to come back home. Reports said the American siblings left their home after disagreeing about rules such as curfew.
Their elder sister told authorities that her siblings told their older family members that they would be selling pies but never returned.
Over 500 Americans Still Missing in Mexico
There are still hundreds of Americans still missing in Mexico. The Washington Post reported that 558 Americans have been missing since 2001 in Mexico, a country facing a crisis in missing persons.
According to government records, over 112,150 have been reported missing in the country. However, it should be noted that there may be more unreported incidents.
Many of those missing in Mexico may be related to the drug war launched by the government and the illegal activities of the Mexican drug cartels like the Sinaloa cartel and the Jalisco cartel.
