The Florida Killer Clown case, a 1990 murder case where a clown killed a Florida woman has finally ended after a woman pleaded guilty to shooting her romantic rival dead while wearing a clown costume.

According to The Miami Herald, Sheila Keen-Warren pleaded guilty to shooting and killing Marlene Warren, the wife of Michael Warren, who would soon be the admitted killer's husband. She did this while wearing a clown costume.

At that time, Keen-Warren was allegedly the mistress of Michael Warren, whom she eventually married in 2002. However, in 2017, she was arrested for the murder of her husband's ex-wife. She maintained that she did not kill Marlene Warren for around 33 years.

However, on Tuesday, the alleged "Florida Killer Clown," not to be confused with the infamous "Killer Clown" serial killer John Wayne Gacy, changed her plea to guilty on the charge of second-degree murder.

Florida Killer Clown Took a Plea Deal

Keen-Warren reportedly took a plea deal to change her plea from not guilty to guilty. However, since she took this deal, she would only remain in prison for only about two years, according to the Associated Press.

Court documents stated that they agreed that the "Florida Killer Clown" would get a 12-year sentence and also be given credit for the 2,039 days (which is a little over 5 1/2 years) she spent inside a jail in Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg released a statement that said that the plea deal "obtained a measure of justice" for Marlene Warren and her son. He added, "Sheila Keen Warren has finally been forced to admit that she was the one who dressed as a clown and took the life of an innocent victim. She will be a convicted murderer for the rest of her days."

Meanwhile, Keen-Warren's attorney, Greg Rosenfeld, told the Associated Press that the deal was "an incredible win for Ms. Keen-Warren." The lawyer stated that she still insists on not being the killer despite long being accused of murdering her husband's deceased wife.

The case was handled quietly during Circuit Judge Scott Suskauer's lunch break from another murder trial, with no notice of Tuesday's plea hearing being announced.

The Florida Killer Clown Murder Explained

During one morning in May 1990, a clown appeared before the door of Marlene Warren's home in Florida. Warren opened the door and was given carnations and balloons by the clown. However, the clown then shot her dead in front of her son.

The case was considered strange, even by Florida standards, and it came to a close after the victim's own family agreed to the plea deal, according to CBS News.

Many have suspected Keen-Warren to be the killer as she reportedly was having an affair with the victim's husband. She had worked for Michael Warren's used car lot and married him in 2002. They moved to Abington, Virginia together where they ran a restaurant.

Witnesses in the case have repeatedly told investigators that Keen-Warren was secretly having an affair with Michael before the murder happened.

Prosecutors initially wanted to have her executed for the murder, but the plea deal may have saved her life. She may get out as early as next year due to good behavior.
