Supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump are urging him to take Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as his vice president, according to a source.

One source confirmed to Page Six that the former president is listening to suggestions from his close circle to make DeSantis his running mate, but he has not agreed to it yet.

The same source added that supporters say that DeSantis being Trump's vice president pick would stop him from opposing the former president while offering a "youthful conservative vigor" to the campaign, which they believe U.S. President Joe Biden does not have.

The insider also said that picking DeSantis would be ideal as he can bring in "big money to the campaign."

The same person with knowledge on the matter went on to say that the Florida governor wants to raise funds and "test the waters." However, he would only run in 2028 after Trump wins or loses.

The source said that some donors are already pushing for a partnership between the two.

Meanwhile, the Republican governor has yet to launch his official campaign while Trump is waiting for his nomination.

People close to Trump said that he has been telling friends that he already has "got the nomination locked in with Republicans."

Donald Trump-Ron DeSantis Tandem?

In March 2023, the former president announced that he had "never considered" the Republican governor as his presidential election running mate.

When asked by Newsmax host Rob Schmitt if he ever considered DeSantis as an option, he noted that "he never thought of it," and that there are "a lot of great people in the Republican Party," according to Newsweek.

Trump also described it as an "unlikely alliance."

He then claimed that DeSantis had only won his position in 2018 due to his endorsement.

The tension between the two began when DeSantis answered "I have no comment" when asked if he would run against Trump for the presidency.

In a Newsmax interview with Eric Boiling, DeSantis was asked if he would consider serving as Trump's vice president. He then replied that he was more of an "executive guy."

During that interview, DeSantis did not confirm whether he was running for president.

Donald Trump Vs. Ron DeSantis

The former president holds a 15-point lead over DeSantis in a recent NBC News poll for the GOP presidential nomination.

Trump leads with 46% of Republican primary voters, which was then followed by DeSantis at 31%.

Despite not winning any major demographic subgroup, DeSantis does best among young voters and has support from 49% of those who say they support the GOP over Trump.

Meanwhile, a new analysis of national and state polling showed that Biden would defeat Trump in the 2024 Electoral College while losing to DeSantis, as reported by New York Post.

The survey also showed DeSantis leading the president in five of six likely 2024 battleground states, such as Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
