'Dracula Untold' 2014 Trailer and Plot: Vampire Movie Casts 'The Hobbit' and 'Fast & Furious 6' Star Luke Evans [Video]
Vampires have become popular in mainstream culture, and new movie "Dracula Untold" will feature a remaking of the history and origin of vampires.
Bram Stoker wrote his famous vampire book "Dracula" in 1897, possibly basing it on 15th-century Romanian prince Vlad Dracul III, known as Vlad Tepes and the Impaler. Luke Evans will portray him in the upcoming film. "Dracula Untold," set in the 1400s, recounts the story of a young prince who would give up everything for his family. He resorts to dark powers to become among the first of the vampires.
Vlad Tepes III, estimated to have been born in 1431 in a mountainous area of Transylvania, Romania, was the son of Vlad II. During the Muslim invasion of the Christian regions of Europe, Vlad II received the name "Dracul," which means "dragon," after he was inducted into a Christian military organization called the Order of the Dragon, which had the Holy Roman Emperor's support. Thus, Vlad III was called "Dracula," or "little dragon."
Evans is known for his roles in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and "Fast & Furious 6." He will be joined by Sarah Gadon, who plays Mirena, Vlad's wife, as well as Dominic Cooper as Mehmed the Second and Samantha Barks, who will play Baba Yaga, a beautiful woman who turns into an evil witch. Gary Shore, known for commercial work with companies such as Nokia, Adidas and Vogue, will be directing his first full-length film with "Dracula Untold."
The trailer hints that Dracula is not purely evil, as he also suffers from the moral struggle of living with his great powers, exploring the vast gray area between good and evil.
