The three Colorado teens suspected of killing a woman by throwing a landscaping rock at her passing car allegedly took a picture of her vehicle after it crashed.

Suspects Joseph Koenig, Nicholas "Mitch" Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak, all 18, allegedly threw large landscaping rocks toward at least seven passing cars in Westminster in Jefferson County on April 19.

One of the rocks they threw reportedly hit the car of Alexa Bartell, 20, as she drove north in the 10600 block of Indiana Street at around 10:45 p.m.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that the rock went through her vehicle's windshield, which made her car go off the road and then crashed into a field, killing her on the scene, CBS News reported.

After Bartell's car crashed, the three Colorado teens allegedly circled back to take a "memento" picture of her vehicle. According to CBS Colorado, Kwak told investigators he was the one throwing the rocks, and one of them hit Bartell's car.

He also admitted that he suggested they go back to take a photo of the victim's car as a "memento." 

"We have to go back and see that," Kwak allegedly told the others, as revealed in an arrest affidavit acquired by CBS Colorado.

Karol-Chik also told detectives that Kwak was the one throwing the rocks, while Koenig was the one driving their black 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. 

Bartell's car was the seventh or the last one hit by the rocks thrown by Kwak. Police clarified that the rock killed the victim and not the crash.

Two other drivers reportedly suffered minor injuries that night. The sheriff's office said mobile device forensics and tips from the public helped lead them to the three Colorado teens, who are currently being held without bond.

Colorado Teens Charged With First-Degree Murder

Joseph Koenig, Nicholas "Mitch" Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak were all high school seniors in three different schools in Arvada, Colorado. They were arrested in their respective parents' homes following the deadly incident.

According to ABC News, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday morning that the three Colorado teenagers will face charges of first-degree murder with extreme indifference and will likely face more charges.

Four other drivers were not hurt in the incident. One of these unhurt drivers was Nathan Tipton, a Lyft and Uber driver, who told reporters, "When I found out that this series of events actually took a young lady's life, I feel for Alexa and her family. It put me in a bit of a shock. My wife, it really got to her."

A witness claimed he was with the three suspects on the night that Bartell was killed. He noted that he was with them at a Walmart parking lot and saw them loading landscaping rocks into a pickup truck but did not go with them as he knew something bad was going to happen.

One of the Colorado Teens Had a History of Destructive Behavior

According to court documents, Joseph Koenig was reportedly known to often participate in "destructive behavior" because "he likes causing chaos."

While the other two teens spoke with authorities after their arrest, Koenig reportedly did not.

According to Colorado Public Radio, Nicholas "Mitch" Karol-Chik told investigators that they all got excited whenever they hit a car. However, he admitted feeling "a hint of guilt" when they passed by Alexa Bartell's vehicle.

Detectives are also investigating the teens' involvement in similar incidents reported in the area. Meanwhile, Koenig's father was also taken into custody for obstruction during his son's arrest.
