California Homeless Woman in Critical Condition After 3rd Davis Stabbing in a Week
A 64-year-old California homeless woman is now fighting for her life after she was violently attacked in her tent near 2nd Street in Davis City on Monday night, police said.
The latest incident was the third stabbing in Davis in a week. The first two victims died. FOX2 reported that the Davis Police Department has not yet linked the three stabbings, and no arrests have been made.
Police Chief Darren Pytel said it appeared that the victim was inside her tent when "the suspect came up and stabbed her through the sidewall of the tent."
He added: "There were many and very significant knife wounds." The California homeless woman reportedly remains in critical condition at the hospital.
People familiar with her and those who reside in the area's encampments are concerned about this matter, especially since the suspect is still at large.
Meech, an unhoused inhabitant, said: "It seems like this person is getting a fixation or getting some kind of kick out of what he's doing," adding that the California homeless woman did nothing to anyone to deserve to be stabbed.
After speaking with four eyewitnesses, including the victim, and posting an image of a potential suspect in the attack on Monday, Pytel noted that investigators had received hundreds of leads.
"The suspect has been described as young and even college aged... [But] we don't know whether the suspect is a UC Davis student," he said.

Davis Fatal Stabbings in California
David Henry Breaux, 50, a frequent visitor to Central Park, was named the first victim. Davis police responded to a call of a man discovered unconscious in the park on April 27.
Emergency responders found Breaux with several stab wounds, and he was later pronounced dead, Fox40 reported. According to Pytel, there were no eyewitnesses to the crime and no available surveillance footage.
Breaux had been a Davis resident since 2009 and was known in the city as the "Compassion Guy," police said.
Breaux would often meet and talk to passers-by on a busy corner in downtown Davis, asking them for their thoughts on compassion. As he became popular, the city installed a bench in Breaux's corner in 2013 called the "Compassion Bench."
On April 29, a concerned individual contacted 911 to report a disturbance in Sycamore Park, about 1.5 miles northwest of Central Park.
The caller said before calling 911, he went outside to find out what happened and found a man who appeared to have been stabbed numerous times.
The victim, a male in his early 20s, was found by police, and emergency workers pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities identified the second victim as UC Davis student Karim Abou Najm, 20.
According to Pytel, there was a single witness who "exchanged some words" with the suspect before he fled.
Police Still Looking for the Davis Stabbing Suspect
After conducting a "detailed search" of downtown overnight, Davis police officers could not find the suspect, the department noted. According to CNN, residents were told to remain vigilant of their surroundings even if the shelter-in-place order was lifted.
City officials described the suspect as a light-skinned, thin man with curly hair between 5'6 and 5'9 tall. He was wearing a black or blue sweatshirt, and white-striped black pants, carrying a brown backpack.
According to Pytel, the description of the suspected attacker now matched the assailant in two of the recent stabbings.
Davis police said in a press release on Sunday that the suspect was a light-skinned man between 19 and 23 years old who may be a 5'7 to 5'8 tall Hispanic with long, loose, curly hair.
Pytel noted that the investigation focused on analyzing the physical evidence while examining the tips that quickly poured in after police described the suspect.
In a news conference on Tuesday, Pytel said, "We are looking for DNA that will help us find the offender," adding that physical evidence has already been sent to crime labs to identify a similar pattern.
