Johnny Depp made his first public appearance in quite a while during the Cannes Film Festival and received a standing ovation. Amber Heard fans were not happy.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor was not seen in public since his protracted legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, in which he won. However, the 59-year-old was highly emotional as he stepped into the red carpet for the first time since Heard accused him of domestic abuse.

The "Sweeney Todd" actor was also seen interacting with the crowd outside the Palais, many of whom were carrying signs in support of Johnny Depp. One was even spotted carrying a "Viva Johnny" sign while shouting his name, according to US Weekly.

Depp based on all the love and support being showered upon him in southern France, as this was a sign of resurgence for his career which took a massive hit when Heard accused him of domestic abuse. However, after he won the case, many saw it as redemption for the embattled actor.

Amber Heard Fans and Supporters Protesting Cannes Film Festival Over Johnny Depp

While Johnny Depp is basking in all the love and support being given to him by fans over in southern France, supporters and fans of his ex-wife, Amber Heard, were crying foul over the film festival choosing him to be its opener.

Her supporters have launched a new social media campaign with the hashtag #CannesYouNot and are claiming that the prestigious film festival is "celebrating abusers for 76 years."

According to Variety, this was launched by Amber Heard supporters just days before the festival kicked off in Cannes. One of its proponents, a close friend of Amber Heard, Eve Barlow, stated, "Cannes seem proud of their history supporting rapists and abusers."

In a post on social media, she posted photos of known sexual abusers that the festival celebrated, including Roman Polanski and Harvey Weinstein. She included Depp in that collage of Hollywood's most infamous abusers.

Rebecca, one of the people organizing this campaign, said that many of those supporting it are victims of sexual abuse themselves and that the result of the case between Heard and Depp frightened many of them as it was seen as a step back from the gains they had in fighting back against men in power known for sexual abuse.

"The Depp v. Heard trial became the vehicle through which the backlash against the #MeToo movement went viral. Hollywood industries seem to be riding that backlash to return to the status quo," Rebecca told Variety. "To open your festival with Johnny Depp? To be frank, it feels like a slap in the face."

Other People at the Cannes Film Festival

While Depp opened the prestigious film festival, other big-name Hollywood celebrities were also seen on the red carpet, including "Captain Marvel" star Brie Larson, "Kill Bill" star Uma Thurman, and even a blue-haired Helen Mirren, with the Oscar winner seen sporting a fan labeled #worthit.

Meanwhile, according to the Associated Press, the French fans also showed their love for Hollywood legend Michael Douglas who was accompanied by wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and their daughter, Carys Zeta Douglas. The Oscar-winning actor also received a standing ovation.
