The Baja California peninsula in Mexico, which includes Baja California Sur state, is a popular destination for American tourists. However, the bodies of two dead Americans were recently found inside a hotel there.

The bodies of the two dead Americans were found in the El Pescadero community near Los Cabos, Baja California Sur state on Tuesday. Police have not yet released the names of the two victims, nor where they were from, though US officials have confirmed that they already know that the two were US citizens.

The Americans might have died of carbon monoxide poisoning, as reported by the Associated Press. This is because paramedics received a report Tuesday that the two were unconscious inside the hotel room.

When paramedics arrived, the two were already dead. Right now, authorities suspect they died of inhalation of gas, which is not an uncommon cause of death in Mexico. Many in the country have died due to poisoning by carbon monoxide or other gases as these poisonous substances are often produced by improperly vented or leaky water heaters and stoves.

This was not the first time something like this has happened, though, as three US citizens were found dead in an apartment they rented in Mexico last October. Much like the two Americans found dead in Baja California Sur, they also died of gas inhalation.

Mexico has been having problems with proper gas line installations, vents, and monitoring devices, as gas leaks have often proved deadly in the country, as incidents have led to tourists and foreigners dying in separate incidences in 2010 and 2018.

Three Other Americans Died in Baja California Peninsula Last Month

Because of its proximity to the US-Mexico border, the Baja California peninsula has been a very popular destination for Americans. However, many of them have also been caught up in several incidents in the region, including last month where 10 people were killed in a shootout. Three of those who died were US citizens.

One of those who died included California man Roberto Isaias "Tito" Ayala, a father to a four-year-old girl. He was reportedly just a bystander when a shootout between two groups erupted in a small town near Tijuana. The shootout reportedly occurred during an off-road racing event, according to NBC-7 San Diego.

American Found Dead in Clandestine Pit in Baja California Sur

Back in April, authorities found an American man in a clandestine burial pit. The body was identified as Wilmer Trivett, a California man who had been camping in the area and had been reported missing since February.

According to Fox News, prosecutors alleged that Trivett was caught up in a traffic incident with two suspects, with the American paying around $2,500 for damages or injuries. Despite this, the pair still abducted him and killed him. The suspects have now been caught and face homicide charges.
