Former White House legal adviser John Eastman, who helped then-President Donald Trump plot the fake electors scheme, is facing increasing scrutiny as he faces disbarment in California. It seems that investigators are now closing in on the former California law professor as well.

The Guardian reported that Eastman is not just facing disbarment over his actions relating to January 6 but also state and federal investigations, particularly Special Counsel Jack Smith's January 6 and election interference investigation, as well as Fulton County DA Fani Willis's separate Georgia election probe.

Eastman was one of the lawyers who took the lead in the effort to overturn the 2020 presidential elections and block Joe Biden's win. He was central in suggesting that it would be then-Vice President Mike Pence who should overturn the results. He was also the one who masterminded the fake electors scheme.

It was he who suggested bringing in an "alternate" set of electors to vote for Donald Trump in the electoral college for seven key battleground states, instead of the real electors who were supposed to vote for the actual winner, Joe Biden. The plot eventually failed as the proper electors were able to vote for Biden.

Both the Georgia and federal investigations have zeroed in on Eastman, with Willis expected to bring criminal charges against him and Trump in August, while Smith and his prosecutors have recently interviewed fellow Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani regarding the fake electors plot.

As investigators are slowly zeroing in on Eastman, the California Bar is also investigating him for possible disbarment. Last week, the Trump ally and former law professor faced allegations that he "knowingly and willfully pushed false and outlandish allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 election," as well as promoted schemes to overturn the election results. The schemes have been deemed "unlawful."

According to NPR, Eastman previously served as the dean of the Chapman University School of Law and even has a doctorate in law. Despite his expertise in law, however, Eastman still conspired with Trump to disrupt the electoral count on January 6, leading to his disbarment trial that started last month.

The California Bar noted that the former law professor advanced a legal theory that was "baseless, completely unsupported by historical precedent or law, and contrary to our values as a nation." However, Eastman's lawyer stated that his client's actions were a matter of "scholarly debate."

Mike Pence Lawyer Testified About Argument With Donald Trump Legal Adviser John Eastman

One of the witnesses called to testify against Eastman was Greg Jacob, who is the top lawyer representing former VP Mike Pence. During his testimony, he recalled having a heated argument with the disgraced pro-Trump lawyer via email.

Eastman had a furious email exchange with the Pence attorney, arguing that Pence could "legally" postpone the electoral vote count so that his "alternate" electors' votes could be passed as the real ones. However, Jacob testified that he rejected this idea.

However, as he was about to send a reply to Eastman's argument, he heard a crash, and it came from a member of the Proud Boys smashing a Capitol window with a stolen riot shield.

Politico noted that Jacob was one of the key checks that kept Donald Trump from successfully stealing the elections with Eastman's schemes.
