Authorities in Mexico have found another dead migrant floating near Texas Governor Greg Abbott's now-infamous floating barriers along the Rio Grande.

The dead body was confirmed as a 20-year-old migrant from Honduras. It was his mother who identified his remains.

The Mexican Department of Foreign Relations stated that the dead migrant's body was recovered by Mexican authorities around 3 miles upriver from where the floating barriers were placed. The body was already badly decomposed because of the water but it was still identified by his mother. However, fingerprint tests would still be needed for confirmation, according to the Associated Press.

The mother is also a Honduran migrant who is staying at a migrant shelter in Piedras Negras, just across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, Texas. She stated that she identified her son's body through the tattoos.

Previously, a dead body was found near the floating barriers, though it still has not been identified yet, according to Mexican authorities. Nobody came forward and claimed the body, though the Coahuila state prosecutor's office stated that it is working to positively identify the bodies and determine the cause of death.

That unidentified dead body was found lodged against the buoys by the force of the river. It was the Texas Department of Public Safety that alerted the authorities to this dead body. Texas DPS noted that this one "drowned upstream from the marine barrier and floated into the buoys."

DPS director Steve McCraw added, "There are personnel posted at the marine barrier at all times in case any migrants try to cross."

The bright orange buoys that form the Texas floating barrier were installed along the Rio Grande as part of Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star, which also involves low-lying razor wire fences and allowing the Texas National Guard to arrest migrants for trespassing.

Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador Slams Greg Abbott's Floating Barriers

During his daily press briefing, Mexico's President Andres Manuel López Obrador addressed the floating barriers issue and condemned Texas over them, He called the installation of these buoys "inhumane" after bodies were found in the Rio Grande after the barriers were installed.

"No one should be treated like this. That kind of treatment does not come from a good person; only by being good can we be happy," said AMLO in his address.

CNN reported that he then addressed Greg Abbott directly, saying, "Abbott shouldn't act like that; it's inhumane."

The Texas governor has since doubled down on his floating barriers despite the threat of litigation from the Biden administration and the diplomatic complaint from Mexico.

Migrants Undeterred by Texas Floating Barriers

Abbott's administration is currently facing a lawsuit from the federal government over these floating barriers, with federal authorities citing that the buoys break several federal laws and present "humanitarian concerns." However, Abbott has dug in and says he is willing to go to the Supreme Court if he has to.

Abbott claims that the floating barriers are there to deter migrants from crossing the Rio Grande. However, as current events have shown, migrants either just ignore the barriers and try to swim through them or worse, find more dangerous parts of the river and cross there. These could force drownings either way as migrants remain undeterred.

Many still find a way, though reports of children getting cut by Abbott's razor wire have become more and more common.
