Texas: Ted Cruz Hits Back on 'Cover-up' in Hunter Biden Case
Texas Senator Ted Cruz has strongly criticized the appointment of special counsel David Weiss, the U.S. attorney in Delaware, for the investigation involving Hunter Biden.
In an interview on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures," the Republican senator labeled the appointment as "camouflage" and a "cover-up," according to The Hill.
Cruz, in conversation with Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo, expressed his disapproval of the appointment, stating, "I think it's disgraceful."
He highlighted that David Weiss had been specifically chosen to lead the investigation and had allegedly spent the past five years concealing information.
Cruz asserted that Weiss' selection was influenced by Democratic Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons from Delaware.
Attorney General Merrick Garland made the decision to appoint Weiss as special counsel in response to a faltering plea deal concerning Hunter Biden's alleged tax and gun-related crimes.
According to Cruz, the investigation into Hunter Biden has not progressed beyond protecting Hunter and Joe Biden.
He referenced claims made by two IRS whistleblowers who asserted that Weiss was blocked from seeking special counsel status. However, these allegations have been denied by both Weiss and the Department of Justice.

Hunter Biden Should Be 'Removed from Office and Prosecuted,' Says Texas Sen. Ted Cruz
Texas Senator Ted Cruz stated on Thursday that the evidence pertaining to bribery allegations involving foreign oligarchs and Hunter Biden is progressively accumulating.
He said if evidence emerges supporting the bribery claims and Hunter Biden is proven guilty, he should be "removed from office" and "prosecuted," per The Gazette.
Numerous Republicans, including former Vice President Mike Pence, have weighed in on Weiss' appointment.
Pence deemed the appointment "appropriate" and expressed confidence in Republicans within the House of Representatives continuing to uncover facts about the case.
Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), who is also a 2024 presidential candidate, described Weiss' appointment as an indication that nothing has changed within the Department of Justice.
He expressed concern that the appointment could erode trust in the DOJ among everyday Americans.
David Weiss and Hunter Biden Case
David Weiss, the U.S. Attorney for Delaware since 2018, has been overseeing federal investigations into Hunter Biden since 2019, The Independent reported.
Recent developments involve a plea deal that Hunter Biden reportedly considered, which ultimately fell apart.
He pleaded not guilty to some charges related to unpaid taxes and a federal firearm application after a federal judge raised concerns about potential future prosecutions being inhibited by the deal.
IRS whistleblowers, communicating with Republican members of Congress eager to prosecute Hunter Biden, claimed that Weiss's appointment as special counsel was necessary due to restrictions on his ability to pursue prosecutions outside of Delaware.
They also alleged that the U.S. Department of Justice prevented Weiss from pursuing felony tax evasion charges in California and Washington DC.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz accused Weiss of being actively involved in covering up "criminality" and obstructing justice by protecting the president or complicit in such actions.
He criticized Weiss's alleged inability to prevent partisan interests from influencing the investigation's direction, asserting that Weiss's actions might have contributed to political efforts to shield Joe Biden.
