Milwaukee, Wisconsin Mayor Cavalier Johnson expressed deep concern and condemnation in the wake of a violent weekend that witnessed a series of shootings, leaving four individuals dead and 20 others injured from Friday to Sunday.

As the city grapples with the Milwaukee shootings' aftermath, local leaders are urging collective efforts to curb the escalating violence.

Mayor Johnson denounced the violence as "entirely unacceptable." He called upon the community to stand against the bloodshed, per Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

He highlighted the urgency of addressing the issue collectively: "Gun violence over the past weekend is entirely unacceptable in this city. My thoughts are with the shooting victims, their friends, and their families."

One particularly devastating incident occurred late Saturday night, where a shooting in the 1400 block of W. Burnham St. left nine individuals injured.

Among them were six males and three females, ranging from 16 to 42 years of age. All victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

Following the incident, a 22-year-old Milwaukee man was apprehended, and a firearm was recovered. The investigation is ongoing, with charges pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

Another shooting occurred on Sunday evening in the 1300 block of W. Mitchell Street, resulting in serious injuries to a 29-year-old woman and three men aged 19, 22, and 26.

A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody regarding the incident while the investigation continues and charges are pending review.

Milwaukee Shootings Caught on Video

Video footage obtained by TMJ4 captured the chaotic scenes as shots rang out, leading to people fleeing for cover.

The footage depicted the harrowing moments when different types of gunfire erupted, showing individuals assisting one another to safety.

Residents have voiced their distress over the recent surge in violence.

One long-time neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed sadness and concern about the state of their neighborhood. They called for increased security measures and policing.

12th District Alderman Jose Perez emphasized the importance of community involvement and responsible event management.

He shared that many community members are dedicated to making their neighborhood the best it can be, and they are disappointed by a few individuals' behavior that negatively affects so many lives.

City Leaders React to Milwaukee Shootings

City leaders have united in their condemnation of the violence, expressing their outrage at the Milwaukee shootings, according to CBS 58.

Mayor Johnson insisted that the criminal justice system holds those responsible fully accountable and that the Office of Violence Prevention is taking steps to mitigate the issue.

He also stressed the need for leaders and legislators to reevaluate gun laws to prevent firearms from ending up in the wrong hands.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers echoed these sentiments on social media, emphasizing the need to address violence and its underlying causes.

Speaking on behalf of the Milwaukee Common Council, Alderman Jose Perez emphasized the exhaustion the community and its leaders felt due to the recurring violence.

He urged a shift away from resorting to firearms and violence to resolve conflicts.

Alderman Perez expressed his sentiment about the unfortunate incident on Saturday, highlighting that unpermitted large gatherings are recurring.

He pointed out the lack of supervision, the absence of proper permits, and limited awareness among law enforcement and local authorities.

As he emphasized, the established event process exists for a reason - to ensure public safety and organization for such gatherings.
