Wimbledon 2014 Schedule, Live Stream, Preview: Rafael Nadal Faces Nick Kyrgios; Roger Federer Collides With Tommy Robredo
Rafael Nadal will resume his quest for his 15th grand slam title while Roger Federer will look to prove that he is still a force to reckon with when they see action in Day 8 of the 2014 Wimbledon.
Nadal, who is also looking to win his third Wimbledon title, will go up against unseeded teenager Nick Kyrgios of Australia in the fourth round of competition.
The second-seeded Nadal is coming off an impressive 6-7, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 win against Mikhail Kukushkin in the third round, while Kyrgios took down Jiri Vesely of Czech Republic 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 in the previous round.
Nadal will be a heavy favorite heading into Tuesday's match, but the current world No. 1 said that he will not take any chances, insisting that a young player like Kyrgios is a dangerous opponent.
"Young players are very dangerous as always the young players have something special," Nadal said via The Guardian. "They are able to play with no pressure. They are fresh."
The 19-year-old Kyrgios, who defeated 13th-seeded Richard Gasquet in the second round, knows that he has a gargantuan task ahead of him, but he vowed to be at his best on Tuesday's match.
"Rafa is probably the fittest guy on tour, and one of the strongest, too," Kyrgios said. "He will have no worries. But I thrive on those opportunities to play in front of a big crowd. I love it. I will be interacting a bit with them. It's going to be really exciting."
Meanwhile, Federer will also continue his chase for an elusive eighth Wimbledon title when he collides with Tommy Robredo of Spain.
Federer has been performing well in what he called one of his favorite tournaments, scoring straight-set victories against Paolo Lorenzi of Italy, Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, and Santiago Giraldo of Colombia respectively.
Federer won in 10 of 11 meetings before, but Robredo emerged victorious in their most recent match. The Spaniard scored a 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 win against Federer in the US Open earlier this year.
The Federer-Robredo match is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. EST at the No. 1 Court, while the Nadal-Kyrgios match will be the second match at the Centre Court.
