The Indiana murder suspect, Kevin Mason, who was mistakenly released from a detention center in Indianapolis due to a clerical error two weeks ago, has been captured in St. Paul, Minnesota, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Mason, 28, was apprehended around 2 PM ET by the US Marshals Service, which had been conducting a manhunt for him since his erroneous release, CNN reported.

Marion County Sheriff Kerry J. Forestal expressed his gratitude to the USMS for their efforts in safely returning Mason to custody.

He also commended the collaboration and resources provided by federal partners and their task force partnerships with local law enforcement agencies that facilitated the pursuit of Mason across the country.

Kevin Mason's initial arrest in Indiana on September 11 was in response to three Minnesota warrants, one of which involved suspicion of murder in connection with a 2021 shooting in Minneapolis.

The other warrants were related to an alleged parole violation and firearms possession.

The accidental release of Indiana murder suspect Kevin Mason from the Adult Detention Center in Indianapolis occurred on September 13, only days after his arrest in connection with the 2021 killing of Dontevious Catchings in Minnesota.

An inmate records clerk mistakenly cleared two of the holds, and Minnesota authorities removed the last hold, unaware that the other two had already been lifted, per Fox News.

In response to this grave error, two employees of the Marion County Sheriff's Office have been terminated.

Authorities became aware of Mason's release within hours but intentionally withheld this information from the public for six days, aiming to maintain a tactical advantage during the manhunt.

During the manhunt, Mason received assistance from Desiree Oliver, 29, who is believed to be his girlfriend. Oliver, a nurse, was subsequently arrested on one count of assisting a criminal.

Desiree Oliver could face one to six years in prison after being accused of aiding a criminal, despite the fact that the man she allegedly assisted was erroneously released from jail due to MCSO staff's error.

Court documents reveal that Mason was at Oliver's home on E. 31st Street when he was arrested on September 11, FOX 59 noted.

Additionally, court documents disclose that Kevin Mason called Oliver upon learning of his release on the same day and requested her to pick him up.

Oliver's response, "They let you out?" indicated surprise, as investigators reported.

While the documents indicate that Oliver spoke to Mason via telephone during his brief incarceration, they do not definitively conclude that she was aware of the severity of his charges.

The court records show that Oliver admitted to dropping Mason off near the Keystone Fashion Mall after his release from jail.

Investigators accused Oliver of initially providing false information to the police when they visited her home on E. 31st Street on September 13. Traffic cameras recorded her vehicle picking up Mason after his release.

Desiree Oliver now faces a Level 5 felony count of assisting a criminal, a charge that carries a potential sentence of up to six years in prison.
