Bowie State University Shooting: 2 Teens Injured in Suspected Attack of Multiple Shooters
Yet another school shooting in the US has happened, this time in Maryland as shooters shot up Bowie State University on Saturday, injuring two teens. The incident occurred just a few days after another school shooting at the nearby Morgan State University.
Bowie State University is an HBCU, and the school invited students over at Morgan State University, another HBCU, to join in on their homecoming, especially after the shooting that happened at their school.
According to CNN, the two teens who were injured were both 19 and from Morgan State University, not Bowie State. Maryland State Police also believe there was more than one shooter in this particular incident. A firearm has also been recovered at the scene.
It is noted that the shootings in both schools just underscored the epidemic of gun violence happening in the US, which has been experiencing a rise in attacks involving firearms all over the country. Troopers have been assigned to the university to guard the homecoming activities but the school shooting still happened.
Bowie State University Temporarily Cancels All Classes After Maryland School Shooting
Bowie State University President Aminta Breaux acknowledged the concerns raised by students regarding their safety after the horrific incident and said that she understands their concerns.
"I understand their fear," said the university's president. "This is not normal. This is not Bowie State University."
She then added that on Monday, all classes have been canceled and all students will have access to counseling services.
Students have expressed their concerns to local media.
"I heard it from my room," student Madison Stephens told WTOP News. "People are definitely concerned and people are definitely pointing fingers at who or what happened."
Another student also stated that the entire student body is worried.
"It is concerning that this is the second shooting to happen at an HBCU in the last two weeks," said sophomore Credence Jackson.
No Bowie State University student was hurt in the attack but it has left its mark on the students.
Other Maryland School Shooting at Morgan State University Resulted in 5 People Injured
The Morgan State University shooting happened last Tuesday, just a few days before the one at Bowie State. Much like this new one, it also happened during their homecoming, resulting in Bowie State inviting their students to attend their homecoming.
According to NBC News. five people were injured during the Morgan State school shooting, with four of those injured being students. The attack was caused by an apparent dispute between two groups, authorities say.
Four of the victims have already been released, but the HBCU has already postponed or canceled its own homecoming activities after the attack. However, it is unclear if the Bowie State University shooting is related to the Morgan State school shooting.
Investigations into their connections are still underway. No arrests have been made so far.
