The chaos and infighting within the Republican Party continue as the man that the majority of Republicans chose to be their House Speaker nominee, Steve Scalise, has now dropped out. This comes after he failed to secure enough votes to take the House Speakership, even with primary opponent Jim Jordan coming out to support him and telling holdouts to support Scalise instead.

"I just shared with my colleagues that I'm withdrawing my name as a candidate for speaker-designee," the Louisiana Representative announced after coming out of a closed-door meeting at the Capitol, informing his Republican colleagues of his decision.

However, Steve Scalise added that the Republican majority "still has to come together and is not there" to unite around one person to become the next House Speaker.

"There are still some people that have their own agendas," he added. "And I was very clear, we have to have everybody put their agendas on the side and focus on what this country needs."

The House's future is now uncertain as House Republicans continue in their infighting despite having the majority. While many in the party are slamming one another, congressional business remains at a standstill and leaving the House of Representatives basically crippled.

Steve Scalise has so far failed to overcome the entrenched divisions among House Republicans. While he does have the support of the majority, many in the House say he "doesn't represent institutional change, that he lacks a unifying vision for the conference, or that his ​battle with blood cancer would make it difficult for him to lead the chamber," according to The Guardian.

House Republican Infighting Could Have Serious Ramifications With No House Speaker Nominee

The position of House Speaker is important, and with no clear nominee from the Republican majority, it could spell some bad news not just for the country but the entire world.

As House Republicans continue their squabbling, this could mean serious consequences. As the Financial Times pointed out, without a House Speaker, US funding for Ukraine or support for Israel in its war with Hamas could not happen as the internal feud is truly crippling Congress.

Without a House Speaker, the possibility of another government shutdown is once again looming. This could close down many of the government's functions and leave millions of federal workers furloughed.

Matt Gaetz Getting Blamed for the Chaos Within the Republican Party

This crisis began when Matt Gaetz moved to oust Kevin McCarthy, and the Florida congressman is now getting much criticism for the chaos he brought about.

"He has very few friends in the caucus," said fellow Florida Republican Representative Carlos Gimenez. "He's about clicks. He's about how many cameras he can get shoved in his face and he's a historical figure because he caused [something] for the first time in history and all that. I think he gets off on that."

As The Guardian pointed out, even Fox News is blaming Matt Gaetz over the chaos he reportedly caused. Fox News personalities have been attacking Gaetz as of late, and the coverage of him has been described as "highly negative."

Even former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich has called Gaetz "treasonous" on Fox News.
