Amanda Bynes Charges and Trial: NYC Judge Dismisses Former Nickelodeon Star's Bong-Throwing Case
On Monday, a New York City judge dismissed the case against Amanda Bynes for allegedly throwing a bong out of a high-rise Manhattan apartment building.
Last year, the 28-year-old actress was arrested for allegedly tossing a bong out of her 36th floor apartment window. The former child star was reportedly smoking marijuana in the lobby of her Manhattan residence when managers called the police. However, when officers entered her apartment, the "Hairspray" star threw the bong out of the window, authorities said. She was charged with tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana, reports ABC News.
A judge told her that her case would be dismissed if she stayed out of trouble and received counseling twice a week.
On Monday, Bynes' lawyers appeared in court, testifying that she complied with the court's orders.
"She did her counseling and it's now all behind her," said Bynes' attorney Gerald Shargel outside court, according to CBS News.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Lori Petersen dismissed and sealed the case.
Bynes' lawyer appeared in court; however, Bynes was not present.
Back in February, Bynes pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving for hitting a Los Angeles County sheriff's patrol car in April 2012. She was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to attend three months of alcohol education classes.
The "Easy A" star has made a drastic turnaround from the bizarre and erratic behavior that she displayed in 2013 after receiving psychiatric care. On July 22, 2013, Bynes was placed in an involuntary hold after she set fire to a stranger's driveway, around the corner from her parents' home in California. She was rumored to have been diagnosed with schizophrenia and her parents were granted full conservatorship over her fortune.
Bynes received treatment for mental illness at UCLA's medical center before she was transferred to a mental rehabilitation facility in Malibu called The Canyon.
Since then, the starlet has been focussing on her physical health and has enrolled in classes at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
