Matthew Perry's death has sent shockwaves across Hollywood, but the "Friends" star's cause of death is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. While it is still speculated that he died due to drowning inside a hot tub and that police did not find any evidence of foul play, his exact cause of death remains a mystery and the LAPD is still trying to find that out.

Best known for playing Chandler Bing in "Friends," Perry was found dead inside his home in Pacific Palisades. He was 54. Officials reportedly received a call from his home that the sitcom actor was found in his hot tub and was not breathing.

The identity of who called 911 to report that Perry was not breathing has not yet been revealed, according to the LA Times. However, that call sparked immediate action as the LA Fire Department arrived at 4:07 PM, with the LAPD arriving just a few minutes later.

Firefighters were able to pull the "Friends" actor out but it was too late. "An adult male patient was deceased prior to first response arrival," said the LAFD in a statement after they found Perry already dead. "The patient was found by a bystander who had re-positioned the victim where the head was out of water" in a freestanding hot tub.

"Firefighters pulled the victim out of the jacuzzi and did a quick medical assessment to find he was deceased," the statement continued. No cause of death has been officially determined for now, though the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has already launched an investigation into it. However, that would likely take months.

The autopsy into Matthew Perry's body has been completed but his cause of death was listed as "deferred." Investigators have also not found any illicit drugs inside the home. However, he does have some prescription medications and they will be part of the review.

Matthew Perry's 'Friends' Co-Stars Release Statement

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer all worked with Matthew Perry on "Friends" and the five remaining "Friends" stars released a statement together on their fallen friend.

The five stars spoke exclusively with PEOPLE Magazine. "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," the joint statement read. "There is so much to say, but right now we're going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able," it continued. "For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty's family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."

The statement was signed by all five remaining "Friends" stars, Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, and Schwimmer.

Playing Chandler Bing made Matthew Perry into a star, and the BBC noted that his character could be summed up by two of his most iconic lines, "Hi, I'm Chandler, I make jokes when I'm uncomfortable" and "I'm not great at advice, can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?"

His character was so iconic that people still remember many of his sarcastic quips as he often plays the straight man for his quirky friends. Many say he was made for the role, but in Perry's own words from his book, "It wasn't that I thought I could play Chandler; I was Chandler."
