Over 100 handguns were stolen from a southwestern Michigan store in a daring heist where the manager was held at gunpoint outside his home and forced to disclose how to disable the alarm, authorities revealed on Tuesday, per the NY Post.

Following the brazen robbery at Dunham's Sports, all guns except one were recovered, and two individuals were apprehended the day after the incident, according to US Attorney Mark Totten.

"Just look at the firepower on this table. There's over $100,000 worth of guns here. ... My experience: These were headed to the streets. These were headed for a quick sale, quick money," Jim Deir, the head of the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in Michigan, said, highlighting the significant firepower involved.

The accused individuals, identified as brothers, are alleged to have targeted a Dunham's store near Benton Harbor, located 100 miles east of Chicago.

Michigan Dunham's Sports Robbery

The Michigan store manager recounted to federal investigators that he was confronted around 10 PM Thursday in the back seat of a car by brothers identified as Darnell Bishop, 33, and Dontrell Nance, 25.

The siblings allegedly handcuffed and blindfolded him before transporting him to an undisclosed location.

It was at this location that, according to charging documents, the men threatened the store manager at gunpoint, coercing him to provide security information enabling access to the Dunham's Store.

Surveillance footage from the store captured a man subsequently disabling the alarm system and filling two coolers with a total of 123 handguns, as reported by agent Campbell, AP reports.

The suspects' identity was uncovered when one of them attempted to transfer money from the manager's bank account using a cash app.

The complaint filed charges both men with four crimes, including gun theft. Agent Campbell disclosed that the suspects admitted their involvement during interviews with investigators.

US Attorney Mark Totten refrained from providing additional details about the store manager but acknowledged the severity of the situation, suggesting that individuals facing similar threats likely had to.

Michigan Robbers Arrested

Investigators obtained the name of a suspect when one of the men unsuccessfully tried to transfer money from the manager's bank account using a cash app, as detailed in a court filing by federal agent Mallorie Campbell, USA Today noted.

This failed transaction aided investigators in identifying Dontrell Nance and, subsequently, Darnell Bishop.

The following day, investigators observed Nance at his residence, where both he and Bishop were seen loading the stolen handguns into an SUV.

On the same day, authorities executed searches at the homes and vehicles of Bishop and Nance, recovering most of the stolen handguns and an unrelated pistol.

The filed complaint on Monday charges the Michigan robbers, Bishop and Nance, with four federal crimes, including robbery under a federal interstate commerce statute, using a firearm during a crime, stealing firearms from a federally licensed dealer, and knowingly possessing stolen firearms.

Both suspects admitted their involvement during interviews with investigators. If convicted, Bishop and Nance could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

US Attorney Mark Totten highlighted the severity of robberies and burglaries involving gun dealers, emphasizing the significant threat they pose to public safety.
