Despite the differences between their husbands, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has requested that former First Lady Melania Trump be invited to her funeral before she died last November 19. It was reported that she thought it was important to show bipartisanship at her funeral, though Melania's husband, Donald Trump, had been burning bridges with all the other former presidents.

Former President Jimmy Carter had been very critical of former President Trump, but a report from the Washington Post showed that his family is willing to honor her wishes and invite "all former first ladies, including Melania Trump."

Chip Carter, the former first couple's son, revealed that his mother was "involved in that decision" to invite Melania Trump, even though she knew his father had "public disagreements over many issues" with Donald Trump. He told the outlet, "My mother was a gracious person, and she would treat everybody with respect, including a former first lady."

Melania Trump To Attend Rosalynn Carter Funeral Along With Her Husband

As for whether or not the Trumps will attend Rosalynn Carter's funeral, in a rare moment of peacemaking, the former president confirmed on Truth Social that he and Melania are both attending, honoring the request made by the late first lady.

As Yahoo! News pointed out, this will be a rare opportunity to see all of the living first ladies together. This will not just include Melania Trump but also Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton, as well as current First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.

Melania Trump has garnered a reputation for not being one of the most diplomatic first ladies, much like her husband. As Donald Trump did not invite then-President-Elect Joe Biden to the White House after losing the election to him, so did Melania as she also did not extend any courtesy to Dr. Jill Biden as she did not invite her for the customary "a tea and tour" of the White House.

However, despite her differences with the Trumps, Rosalynn Carter had never been petty and still invited Melania. In some way, she managed to get all the former First Ladies of the United States together in a rare moment of unity, and this will be remembered as one of her final acts of grace.

Rosalynn Carter's Advocacy in Mental Health Gets the Spotlight Once Again After Her Death

Before she died at the age of 96, Rosalynn Carter had used her platform as First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) to advocate for mental health, as the issue has a very special place in her heart.

According to NPR, the late First Lady has often pointed out the inadequacies in the US healthcare system when dealing with mental health issues. This was during the 1970s and early 1980s when mental health was not explored as much as it is today, making her ahead of her time. After her husband left office, her advocacy for the matter continued.

She admitted that the subject of mental health was a very uncomfortable topic back then, as family members of people with mental illness would tell her in hushed tones how difficult it is. Her work on shedding light on mental health has been praised by experts on the field, as she did spread awareness into the plight of many,

Dr. Rebecca Brendel, a former president of the American Psychiatric Association, stated in a tribute, "She imagined that we would have mental health treatment, just the same way that people were going to the doctors for their physical health," and this was way ahead of the thinking that we have even today.
