Janet Leigh Holden McCormack, the wife of "Will & Grace" star Eric McCormack, has initiated divorce proceedings after a 26-year-long marriage.

The divorce petition was filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court last week, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the grounds for the dissolution, as revealed by a copy of the petition obtained by CNN. Notably, the document did not specify a date of separation.

Holden McCormack is seeking spousal support and a termination of the court's ability to award spousal support to McCormack. Additionally, she aims to establish the division between separate and marital property, with the specifics to be determined at a later date.

The decision to file for divorce was made just one day before Thanksgiving, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

The story of Eric McCormack and Janet Leigh Holden met on the set of the series "Lonesome Dove," which aired from 1994 to 1996, according to TODAY.

McCormack, known for his role as Francis Clay Mosby, and Holden, the assistant director, initially met during the show's production.

In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, McCormack reminisced about the early days of their relationship.

Coming out of a prior relationship, McCormack admitted, "I'd been dating actresses, but Janet was different. She wore jeans and drove a pick-up truck ... At first, she wasn't too keen."

He acknowledged the challenges of dating someone in the industry, stating, "It would be like taking your work home with you."

However, the couple managed to keep their relationship a secret during the first season of the show.

An Instagram post in April 2020 featured a photo from the Season One wrap party in December 1994, marking what McCormack called their "coming out" party.

Despite dating for months, the couple had kept their relationship private within the show's cast.

"Just so happens this was our 'coming out' party," he wrote in the caption. "No one on the show knew we'd been dating for months."

After years of dating, Eric McCormack and Janet Leigh Holden tied the knot on August 3, 1997, and welcomed their only child, son Finnigan Holden McCormack, in 2002.

'Will & Grace' Years

Five months after marrying Janet Leigh Holden, Eric McCormack secured the role of his iconic character on "Will & Grace," per the Daily Mail.

The actor credited being married with helping him navigate newfound fame, stating, "I think I conducted myself as a much better human being because I was already married when all that came along."

"Will & Grace," set in New York, revolved around the friendship between Will, a gay lawyer played by McCormack, and straight interior designer Grace Adler, portrayed by Debra Messing.

"Will & Grace" originally ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006, exploring the careers and love lives of four friends. A reboot in September 2017 extended the series for 11 seasons, concluding on April 23, 2020.

McCormack and Messing were featured alongside series regulars Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally.
