Las Vegas police identified the suspect at the gruesome UNLV shooting that claimed the lives of three faculty members and left another injured.

Police revealed on Thursday that Anthony Polito, 67, a former business professor residing in nearby Henderson, had compiled a list of targets at the school and possessed an additional 150 rounds of ammunition, AP reports.

The assailant was ultimately killed in a confrontation with law enforcement.

Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill disclosed during a press conference that investigators were still piecing together the motive behind the shocking attack.

Polito, a former professor at East Carolina University in North Carolina, faced repeated job rejections from various colleges and universities in Nevada.

The sheriff stated that the targets on Polito's list also included faculty members at East Carolina University, but none of them became victims of the violent spree.

"None of the individuals on the target list became a victim," McMahill said.

Police have successfully contacted everyone on the suspect's list, except for one individual currently on a flight.

Anthony Polito: A Profile Unveiled

Anthony Polito's professional background included stints at schools in Georgia and North Carolina, with his most recent full-time employment as a business professor at East Carolina University until 2017, according to CNN.

His now-removed LinkedIn page showcased a mix of professional accomplishments and personal interests.

Notably, his personal website featured an eclectic range of "Resources," delving into topics such as conspiracy theories related to Freemasonry, the Trilateral Commission, and references to the Rothschild family.

Polito's writings included a controversial mention of George Soros, listed alongside other influential figures.

Describing himself as a "semi-retired university professor," Polito expressed gratitude for positive comments from students about his instruction and disposition, per NBC News.

He legally acquired the weapon used in the shooting, identified as a Taurus PT92 pistol, about 18 months ago in Las Vegas, according to a law enforcement source.

UNLV Shooting Incident Unfolds

The Las Vegas school shooting unfolded on Wednesday, prompting the university to issue alerts about shots fired on campus, BBC noted.

The initial report was followed by additional reports of shots near the Student Union building.

Students in Beam Hall, housing the university's business school, were urged to evacuate to safety, following the standard "RUN-HIDE-FIGHT" active shooter protocol.

The gunman maneuvered through the floors of Beam Hall before exiting the building, leading to a confrontation with two police officers, resulting in the assailant's death.

University Police Chief Adam Garcia praised the heroic response of the university force, highlighting their role in saving lives.

One survivor of the shooting is in stable condition, while four others were hospitalized for panic attacks, and two police officers received treatment for minor injuries.

The tragic event has left the UNLV community grappling with the loss of faculty members and the aftermath of this senseless act of violence.
