Michigan School Shooting: Gunman Admits He's a 'Really Bad Person,' Hit With Life Sentence
Ethan Crumbley, the 17-year-old responsible for the tragic Michigan school shooting in 2021, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole, as declared by a judge on Friday, the NY Post noted.
Prior to the sentencing, Crumbley admitted to being a "really bad person" during a court session.
"I am a really bad person. I have done terrible things that no one should ever do," the Michigan School shooter told the court.
Crumbley, who unleashed gunfire at Oxford High School on November 30, 2021, taking the lives of four students-Madisyn Baldwin, Tate Myre, Hana St. Juliana, and Justin Shilling-expressed remorse before the court.
Seven others were injured in the shooting. The Michigan School shooter, Ethan Crumbley pleaded guilty in October 2022 to all 24 charges, including first-degree murder and terrorism.
The judge's ruling, determining life imprisonment as the harshest penalty in Michigan, concluded months of legal proceedings.

Ethan Crumbley's Defense and Pleas for Parole
In his defense, the Michigan School shooter's legal team argued that signs of severe mental illness were evident in the years leading up to the shooting, with claims that neither his parents nor school authorities intervened to address the issue, per FOX News.
They asserted that Ethan Crumbley, having engaged in therapy and voluntarily taking medication, demonstrated potential for rehabilitation.
During the proceedings, Crumbley accepted responsibility for his actions and stated that his parents were unaware of his plans.
"We are all here because of me today. Because of what I did," Crumbley said, adding that he "could not stop" himself.
Both of Ethan Crumbley's parents face involuntary manslaughter charges for their alleged irresponsible handling of firearms connected to the shooting.
Despite their appeal being denied, they are scheduled for trial beginning January 23. Crumbley expressed remorse and urged the court to impose any sentence requested, emphasizing his desire for the victims' families to find solace.

A total of 29 individuals, including parents of victims and school staff, delivered victim statements during the hearing, according to The Hill.
Parents conveyed the profound and lasting impact of their losses with requests for the Michigan Shool shooter, Ethan Crumbley to receive a life sentence without parole.
Tate Myre's father, Buck Myre, described the family's enduring pain and the permanent void created by the loss of his son.
"Our family has been navigating our way through complete hell," he said.
Michigan School shooting survivors and family members shared emotional testimonies, denouncing the Michigan School shooter's actions as cowardly and devastating.
Tate Myre's brother, Trent Myre, emphasized that Crumbley forfeited any opportunity for leniency when he callously took four lives.
Michigan School shooting survivors also spoke of the ongoing struggle with guilt and the determination to reclaim their lives from the trauma inflicted by the shooting.
"My life has changed its path entirely," survivor Kylie Ossege said, adding that she refuses the cowardly actions of another person to shape her life.
