Renowned actor Pierce Brosnan, famously known for his portrayal of James Bond, is facing legal repercussions in real life for allegedly venturing into a restricted thermal area during a recent visit to Yellowstone Park, per The Guardian.

The charges stem from an incident on November 1 at Mammoth Terraces, located in the northern part of Yellowstone near the Wyoming-Montana border.

Federal citations were issued this week, stating that the 70-year-old actor walked in an off-limits area.

Brosnan is now scheduled for a mandatory court appearance on January 23, facing the legal consequences of his actions within the world's oldest national park.

Yellowstone officials refrained from commenting on the matter, and Brosnan's purpose for visiting the park was cited as personal rather than for film work, according to the US attorney's office for Wyoming.

Pierce Brosnan's Yellowstone Park Violation

The specific charge against Pierce Brosnan falls under 36 CFR 7.13(j) of the Yellowstone Park Code for Regulation, which addresses the "travel of trails," Yahoo! Entertainment noted.

This subsection emphasizes that foot travel in thermal areas and within Yellowstone Canyon must be confined to designated boardwalks or trails marked by official signs.

Brosnan's alleged violation occurred during the filming of his latest feature, "Unholy Trinity," at the Yellowstone Film Ranch.

The potential legal consequences for Brosnan include fines and/or up to six months in jail, as outlined by the Department of Justice, FOX News reports.

However, it remains uncertain whether criminal charges will be pursued.

Dangers at the Yellowstone Park

Within Yellowstone National Park's vast expanse of approximately 2.2 million acres, more than 10,000 hydrothermal features, including geysers and hot springs, dot the landscape, according to MPR News.

The park diligently provides guidelines and warnings both online and on-site to alert visitors to the potential dangers posed by hot springs and similar features.

Yellowstone emphasizes that "hot springs have injured or killed more people in Yellowstone than any other natural feature."

The park has witnessed over 20 fatalities resulting from individuals entering or accidentally falling into the scalding temperatures of certain thermal pools exceeding 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

Despite these warnings, some visitors, allegedly including individuals like Pierce Brosnan, choose to disregard the regulations, leading to serious injuries or even fatalities. In a recent incident, a 49-year-old Michigan man faced federal charges for venturing off-trail in Yellowstone's thermal area, suffering thermal burns, and subsequently being banned from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks until his legal matters were resolved.

Tragic incidents in the past, such as the discovery of a human foot in a hot spring and a fatality in 2016 where an individual fell into a hot spring at the Norris Geyser Basin, underscore the severe consequences of such violations.

Yellowstone National Park, known for inspiring the fictional Jellystone Park in the Yogi Bear cartoons, takes stringent measures against violators, imposing jail sentences, fines, and lengthy bans from the park to deter reckless behavior and protect both visitors and the park's unique ecosystem.
