Green Day Slams Donald Trump and MAGA Movement in New Year Performance of 'American Idiot'
Green Day's "American Idiot" song was originally a shot at George W. Bush. However, during their performance at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, they used the song to slam Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.
During the televised performance, Hreen Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong replaced the line "I'm not a part of a redneck agenda" with "I'm not a part of the Maga agenda." The rock band has been very vocal about their criticisms of the controversial twice-impeached and 4x indicted former president.
As The Guardian noted, the band originally released the song in 2004 to criticize then-President George W. Bush. However, in more recent times, the band has been taking jabs at Donald Trump, even responding to Trump's indictment in August with their own Donald Trump mugshot merchandise.
Green Day has not been shy about being political with their music, with "American Idiot" being the prime example, and they are now aiming the much-beloved song at Trump, whom the band has been criticizing following his efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat and the January 6 Capitol Insurrection in 2021 where his supporters stormed the US Capitol in an effort to keep him in power despite losing the election to Joe Biden.
As for the band itself, Green Day is slated to release a new album this month, and it is described as "an invitation into Green Day's brain."
Maine Official Who Removed Donald Trump From Ballot Gets Harassed
Meanwhile, as Green Day slammed Donald Trump and the MAGA world on New Year, the MAGA movement has started its harassment of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows after she announced that Donald Trump has been disqualified from the Maine presidential ballot because of the 14th Amendment.
Just a day after removing the name Donald Trump from the Maine ballot, a SWAT team was called to her home, making this the latest case of a politician being swatted. She was not at home when the police arrived, and the police noted that they found nothing suspicious, according to the Associated Press.

In recent interviews, the Maine election official stated that her family and her office workers have been threatened since her decision. One Maine lawmaker, a MAGA Republican, also says that she must be impeached, though said MAGA politician could not provide any grounds as to why she must be impeached.
Former DOJ Officials Say Donald Trump Attacks on Prosecutors 'Threaten the Rule of Law'
Since Donald Trump was first indicted, he has been attacking those prosecuting him. However, this could also threaten the rule of law, say former Department of Justice officials.
Trump has spread false information regarding Jack Smith, Fani Willis, Letitia James, and other prosecutors who are prosecuting his cases, as well as the judges overseeing them. As The Guardian pointed out, these attacks are mainly meant to delay his trials. However, they also have another effect, and it emboldens his supporters in the MAGA movement.
"Claiming the federal criminal cases or the Georgia Rico action are election interference, and railing constantly about the character of the prosecutors, judges, and others, is just a formulaic game to Trump," said former Trump lawyer Ty Cobb. "Delay is his major strategic objective in all these cases. These criminal cases were started because of Trump's criminal acts and his refusal to allow the peaceful transfer of government for the first time in US history. Trump's constitutional objections to the trial-related issues are all frivolous including his claim of presidential immunity and double jeopardy."
Meanwhile, this dictator-like behavior from the former president may have been magnified by his own supporters; as Rep. Jamie Raskin pointed out, "Trump feels entirely emboldened by his supporters. He's been given license by the Republican party to go as far as he wants."
