As expected, Donald Trump is projected to win the Iowa Republican caucus. However, as this is happening, a New York judge surprised many by allowing him to testify in his rape trial, given his penchant for turning his testimonies into campaign speeches and veering into unrelated tangents while not sticking to the facts of the case.

Judge Lewis Kaplan wrote that the former president may be given an additional opportunity to testify in the second E. Jean Carroll defamation trial just days after his defense lawyers rest their case, according to CBS News.

This decision came after Trump's attorney, Alina Habba, requested that the defamation trial, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday due to scheduling conflicts as Trump would be traveling to Florida on Wednesday and Thursday for his mother-in-law's funeral. However, the judge wrote that a delay "would disrupt and inconvenience prospective jurors, counsel, court staff, and security arrangements."

This changed Trump's plans as the president is now holding a rally in New Hampshire on Wednesday, ahead of the state's January 23 Republican primary election.

Carroll's lawyers have opposed the request and have cited that Trump has a history of seeking delays for his own benefit, saying that "any delay would be severely prejudicial" and that Trump was "near certain to assert scheduling conflicts again" and that he is still defaming Carroll on "a near-daily basis" as he continues campaigning to be president again.

Donald Trump has already been found liable for rape. The judge gave conditions on Trump's testimony, meaning he is not allowed to turn his time on the stand into a campaign speech, and he must adhere to the facts presented in the case.

Donald Trump Projected To Win Iowa as Expected

As Donald Trump may have succeeded in delaying his rape trial, he also received even more good news as he is projected to win the Iowa Republican caucus. His win in the state is rather expected, as he has been leading in the Iowa polls by a wide margin.

CNN noted that the Trump win places "added pressure on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley ahead of next week's contest in New Hampshire." Haley is looking to win the state as it has a more diverse electorate.

Caucus-goers in Iowa braved snow and freezing temperatures ahead of voting in Iowa, which was one of the hardest-hit areas in terms of snowfall. Votes are currently being counted, but Trump's lead is so big that many media outlets have agreed that he is projected to win the state.

Donald Trump Did Not Sign Illinois Pledge Not To Overthrow the Government

Over in Illinois, Donald Trump is getting blasted for sidestepping the signing of the McCarthy-era voluntary pledge that is part of the Illinois state package of ballot-access paperwork submitted by 2024 electoral candidates last week.

According to The Guardian, the omission came just days before the third anniversary of the January 6 insurrection, which Trump has been accused of orchestrating after he lawfully lost to Joe Biden in 2020.

"For the entirety of our nation's history, presidents have put their hand on the Bible and sworn to protect and uphold the constitution of the United States - and Donald Trump can't bring himself to sign a piece of paper saying he won't attempt a coup to overthrow our government ... We know he's deadly serious because three years ago today he tried and failed to do exactly that," said Biden campaign spokesperson Michael Tyler in a statement.
