Donald Trump Rape Trial Delayed Thanks to COVID-19 Scare Involving Alina Habba
Donald Trump's attorneys finally employed their "Delay Delay Delay" strategy in the latest E. Jean Carrol rape defamation case, but not the one they wanted, as Trump lawyer Alina Habba was exposed to COVID-19 after her parents tested positive for the disease.
Initially, US District Judge Lewis Kaplan announced that the proceedings would be delayed until Wednesday but did not explain why. These delays would mean that any further testimony, including former President Donald Trump's upcoming time on the stand, has been delayed. This also means that Trump can be present in New Hampshire after repeated attempts by Habba to delay the trial have failed.
Alina Habba previously tried to make the New Hampshire primaries as an excuse to delay the proceedings. However, Judge Kaplan refused her repeatedly, even scolding her for her lack of decorum, and reiterated no means no, as Trump's presence in the case was only optional.
Habba finally got her wish, though it was not how she originally planned to get the delay. As Politico pointed out, one of the jurors in the case fell sick, and to make the health concerns for the case even worse, Habba reported that she may have caught COVID-19, along with co-council Michael Madaio.
The COVID-19 Scare That Almost Derailed the Donald Trump Rape Trial
With the cold weather that is currently enveloping the Lower 48, health issues have arisen, including one of the jurors deciding on Donald Trump's fate, with Judge Kaplan ruling, "The juror in seat No 3 reported ...early this morning that he was on the way to the city, but feeling hot and nauseous, so I sent him home for the day with instructions to get a Covid test and report back."
This was when Alina Habba, who was not wearing a mask during the trial, claimed that she and her co-counsel may have been exposed to COVID-19 as well, noting that she was not feeling well and claiming that she and Madaio had dinner with her parents and one of them tested positive.

"You said, Ms Habba, that one or both of your parents had Covid, is that right?" asked the judge. To which Habba replied, "Yes, your honor." They were then told to take COVID tests, to which both tested negative.
Following the COVID-19 scare, the judge asked Habba whether they wanted to proceed without the ill juror, to which Carroll's attorney stated they wanted to press on. However, as expected, Habba, committing to Trump's "Delay Delay Delay" tactics, asked for a pause, saying she wanted the full panel. Kaplan agreed, pausing the trial.
Donald Trump Confusing Barack Obama for Joe Biden Again
While Habba dealt with a possible COVID-19 exposure, her client, Donald Trump, continued to grapple with being accused of cognitive decline after not just confusing Nikki Haley for Nancy Pelosi but also Joe Biden for Barack Obama.
Trump once again confused Biden for Obama during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, saying, "If the president of the United States and I'm not talking about myself, I'm talking about any president, has to have immunity, because if you take immunity away from the president, so important, you will have you have a president that's not going to be able to do anything."
This was a reference to his argument that presidents have absolute immunity from prosecution, adding, "Because when he leaves office, the opposing party, president, if it's the opposing party, will indict the president for doing something that should have been good, like Obama dropped missiles, and they ended up hitting a kindergarten or school or the apartment house, a lot of people were killed."
However, this led to him getting confused about which Democrat president is which, as he continued, "Well, if that's the case, he's going to end up being indicted when he leaves office. He meant well, the missile went in the wrong direction and other things."
This recent claim led to Nikki Haley blasting her Republican primary opponent about his mental decline.
