Kari Lake Audio Recording 'Pressures' Arizona GOP Chairman Jeff DeWit to Resign
Arizona Republican Party Chairman Jeff DeWit has resigned after being threatened and pressured by failed MAGA gubernatorial Kari Lake with damaging audio. He added that Lake threatened to release a "more damaging" audio recording if he did not resign.
The controversy surrounding DeWit and Lake came after The Daily Mail published an audio recording of a conversation between the two Republicans. He explained to her that there were financial benefits to staying out of the Arizona Senate race in 2024.
However, Lake's senior advisers, Caroline Wren and Garrett Ventry, said that the now-resigned state Republican Party chairman was making "false claims," adding, "No one from the Kari Lake campaign threatened or blackmailed DeWit" and that "It is unfortunate that Dewit hasn't recognized how unethical his behavior was and still hasn't apologized to Arizona Republicans."
DeWit posted on social media that he believes he "was set up" in a bid by Kari Lake "to have control over the state party."
"This morning, I was determined to fight for my position. However, a few hours ago, I received an ultimatum from Lake's team: resign today or face the release of a new, more damaging recording," he wrote on X. "I am truly unsure of its contents, but considering our numerous past open conversations as friends, I have decided not to take the risk. I am resigning as Lake requested, in the hope that she will honor her commitment to cease her attacks, allowing me to return to the business sector - a field I find much more logical and prefer over politics."
What Did the Jeff DeWit-Kari Lake Audio Recording Say?
In that damaging audio recording released by the Daily Mail, DeWit told Lake, "There are very powerful people who want to keep you out."
The conversation reportedly happened in March of last year as Lake was preparing her Senate run after losing her bid to become Arizona governor.

He reportedly told Lake, one of Trump's most loyal allies and possible 2024 vice president pick, that he thinks Trump will lose and it is time to make way for someone else. After that, he reportedly asked her not to mention the conversation to anyone before making his initial offer.
"'So the ask I got today from back east was: 'Is there any companies out there or something that could just put her on the payroll to keep her out?'" he asked Lake, who reacted with indignation, telling the Arizona Republican chair, "This is about defeating Trump and I think that's a bad, bad thing for our country."
Kari Lake Slammed For Appearing in New Hampshire Instead of Campaigning for Senate in Arizona
Meanwhile, as she is facing yet another scandal, Kari Lake was out in New Hampshire, campaigning for ally Donald Trump. However, this received much criticism from her own constituents back in Arizona.
AZ Central noted that she had been everywhere but Arizona, where she is running for US Senate. This can be bad for her as she is doing this more for her MAGA base but is doing nothing to win over swing voters.
"I don't know who she's listening to. I've talked to a few people in her universe that just throw their hands up and say she's unreachable, just committed to this path," said Tyler Montague, a longtime Republican strategist. "She surrounds herself so much with people who cheer for her that she's just stuck in a bubble."
