Dominican Republic Judge Orders Conditional Release of US Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine After Domestic Violence Arrest
US rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is a free man, albeit conditionally, as a Dominican Republic judge ordered his conditional release after being arrested over domestic violence charges last week in the Caribbean country.
According to the Associated Press, the real-life Daniel Hernandez. who is actually of Mexican and Puerto Rican origin, was ordered to pay a $510 deposit. He was also ordered to undergo government counseling and meet with authorities every two months until they concluded their investigation that he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, a Dominican rapper known as "Yailín."
In addition, the judge overseeing the case, Fatima Veloz, ordered that both sides be offered protection, as Tekashi 6ix9ine is a controversial rapper known for his gang affiliations back in the United States.
The American rapper's release was against the prosecution's wishes, with prosecutor Ana Andrea Villa Camacho telling the AP, "We know perfectly well why victims do not file a complaint, why victims recant."
The controversial rapper is no stranger to legal problems in the US and the Dominican Republic. This is the second time he was arrested in the Caribbean country, with the first one happening in October after he was accused of assaulting a local music producer. The attack allegedly happened after he and his partner finished recording at his music studio in the country.
Tekashi 6ix9ine Wore Bulletproof Vest and Helmet To Court in Dominican Republic
During that same hearing where he was conditionally released, US rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine arrived at the courthouse with a swarm of police escorts while wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest while being shackled at the wrists.
A swarm of reporters were also present during the hearing, as a famous US rapper who collaborated with Nicki Minaj was on trial in the country.

As for why he had been arrested, the New York Post reported that the rapper told police that his girlfriend, Yailín, whose real name is Jeorjina Guillermo-Diaz, repeatedly hit him and his car, even showing police evidence of the attack. Yailín soon admitted doing this, telling authorities that she wanted "to cause him financial hardship" because she was upset that he had "allegedly taken money and her passport from her."
The Dominican rapper then took to social media to accuse Tekashi 6ix9ine of having a history of domestic violence, stating that he often hit her and when she would retaliate, he would record it.
Tekashi 6ix9ine Has a Long List of Legal Woes
Before his recent legal troubles in the Dominican Republic, Tekashi 6ix9ine has been involved in plenty of legal controversies back in the United States, where he is originally from.
According to CBS News, he was previously accused of using a violent gang as a "personal hit squad" back in the US. However, he avoided serving prison time after turning on members of his previous gang, the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods.
He ultimately landed in jail following racketeering and firearms charges,. He eventually got out but was then beaten up at a gym in Florida.
